He was born in Harlan County, Ky., to James Howard Farmer and Dora Jane Litteral Farmer.

July 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to Joyce Walton, who survives in Elwood. To that union were born five children.

Gordon was a veteran of World War II. He served five years, four of those in the Pacific Theatre. He left the military a tech sergeant.

He won nine military awards: Bronze Star medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct medal, American Defense Service medal, World War II Victory medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, Bronze Star attachment (double), Combat Infantry Badge First Award, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII.

Gordon also served as deacon at Fairmount Community Chapel. Gordon retired from Bowman Construction after a career of approximately 40 years.

Survivors also include daughters, Brenda (Dennis) Reed, Marion, Janie (Jack) Jamison, Rigdon, Penny (James) Borum, Frankton, Pam Beher, Leisure; son, Larry Gordon Farmer, Muncie; special friend, Dawn Burks, Muncie; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mable Farmer Maggard, Forest Park, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Aggie Farmer, Grundy, Ga., Elsie Castor, Hemlock, Brenda McKinney, Snellville, Ga.; and surrogate daughter, Deloris Adams, Greensboro, Ga. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors mourn his passing.

Services are Wednesday in Dunnichay Funeral Home, in Elwood, with the Rev. Leo Moore of Fairmount Community Chapel officiating. Burial with military graveside services by Elwood VFW Post 5782 is in Knox Chapel in Grant County.
