He belonged to the Reformed church and is survived by his widow, two brothers, Daniel, of Mintervillage, and Joseph, of Palmyra, and two sisters, Miss Caroline Blottenberger, of Minersvillage, and Mrs. Abraham Hugentubler, of Johnstown, Pa.

Samuel married Lucetta Groh, daughter of John R. Groh and Lydia Feick, about 1878 in , , Pennsylvania, USA.¹ (Lucetta Groh was born on 30 Sep 1840 in Albany Twp., Berks, PA,⁷ died on 29 May 1909 in Quentin, Lebanon, PA ^{2 8} and was buried on 2 Jun 1909 in Quentin: Bismarck Cemetery, Lebanon, PA ².)
