L. E. Kerley Also Injured.

Mr. Julius P. Wike, who lives one miles west of Taylorsville, died at the Davis Hospital, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, his death resulting from injuries which he recieved in an automobile collision Saturday night.
Mr. Wike and Mr. L.E. Kerley, who lives near Taylorsville, were brought to the hospital shortly after midnight Sunday morning, both having been seriously injured when their car was struck by a large touring car, at a point on the highway, west of Taylorsville, where the Wilkesboro road intersects the road from Taylorsville to Lenoir. Mr. Wike and Mr. Kerley were going west along the highway on their way to Mr. Wike's home when the other car, coming from Wilkesboro at a terrific rate of speed struck their car in a head-on collision and dashed on without stopping.
The Wike car was badly wrecked. Mr. Wike suffered a fracture of the skull and was brought to the Davis Hospital in an unconscious condition, dying Sunday afternoon without regaining consciousness. His companion, Mr. Kerley, suffered sever lacerations about the head and face. He is still a patient at the hospital, but his condition is not considered alarming.
Mr. Wike's remains were taken to his home in Taylorsville Sunday night and interment will take place there. He was about 50 years old.
Officers had no clue as to the identity of the driver of the car which wrecked Mr. Wike's automobile. He drove through Taylorsville at a high rate of speed, it is said, his car striking and wrecking another car, an unoccupied Ford, parked on the street in Taylorsville.
