1. Newspaper: Statesville Record & Landmark: Illness Fatal to Mrs. Wike, 11 Mar 1965, Statesville, Iredell, NC, USA. ² TAYLORSVILLE - Mrs. Launa Elizabeth Wike, 88, of Greensboro, died at 2:40 a.m. today at Piedmont Memorial Hospital there. She was the widow of Julius P. Wike.
She had been seriously ill 10 days. She was born in Alexander County June 16, 1878, a daughter of the late Benny Davis and Martha J. Russell Davis.
Surviving in addition to a son, Edd Wike, route 4, Taylorsville are: six daughters, Mrs. Alfred Crysel of Wilkes County, Mrs. Dan Underwood, Mrs. Blanche Borsbie, Mrs. F.B. Wilson, Mrs. Guy Stilley and Mrs. Ralph Hulon, all of Greensboro; 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Alexander County, where she was a member. Rev. Howell Brady, Rev. Wade Rogers and Rev. Guy Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Alexander County.
The body will be taken from Adams Funeral Home to the home of the son, Edd Wike, at 6 p.m. today. The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
