She appeared in the household of Samuel Beeker in a census in 1860 in Tippecanoe Township, Tippecanoe, IN. 5 5 The 1860 census recorded Samuel Beeker, farmer, 34, living with wife Hannah, 18; Mary D., 3; and Eldora, 9 months. Also in the home is farm hand Joseph Pruett, 17. Everyone was born in Indiana except Hannah in Ohio. Samuel's real estate was valued at $3850 and personal estate $395. Two households later is William Beeker, 29, living with wife Elizabeth, 27; Joseph, 3; Lovinas, 2; and Lorsena, 7 months. Also in the home is farm hand John B. Pruett, 21. Oddly, William has no real estate value, but John Pruett has $6260 with a personal estate worth $1395, suggesting he owned the land. On the same page is his mother, widow Barbara Pruitt, 53, living with her children Randolph, 14; Jane, 11, and Margaret 9. Barbara is nee Beeker, the sister of Samuel and William. Everyone was born in Indiana except Hannah in Ohio. Samuel's real estate was valued at $7500 and personal estate $1400. Their post office was Chauncey, a village which today is part of West Lafayette.

3. Census in 1880 in Tippecanoe Township, Tippecanoe, IN. 7 The 1880 census records 4 Beeker households as neighbors.

Hannah Beeker, 41, was living with daughter Eldira, 20; son John, 18; daughter Lilla J., 13; and two orphans: Theadora Emily, 8; and Charles Baily, 14. Also in the home is Charles Beeker, farmer, 24. Hannah was born in Ohio and her parents in Pennsylvania. Her children were born in Pennsylvania, their father in Ohio.

Everyone and their parents were born in Indiana. Eldora was married for 15 years and had birthed 4 children by 1900, all alive.
Next door is Eldora's brother, John L. Beeker, farm laborer, 38, born Aug 1861, with his wife Ada F., farmer, 31, Nov 1868; Ruby M., Sep 1890; and son Thornton, 4, Jun 1895. Everyone and their parents were born in Indiana except Ada's mother in Sweden. John and Ada were married for 12 years and she had birthed 2 children all alive in 1900.

Mrs. A. P. Bailey Called By Death

Mrs. Ash P. Bailey died at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at her home, 318 Waldron street, West Lafayette, death being due to a complication of diseases. She was born at Battle Ground, September 21, 1860, and had lived in West Lafayette for the past twenty years. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Hettie Brommer, West Lafayette; Mrs. Mary Kucharski, Chicago; Helen Kitsmiller, Calvert City, Ky., and one son, Temple Bailey, Ekalaka, Mont.; also two sisters, Mrs. Mary D. Shigley and Mrs. C. O. Ryan, of West Lafayette, and a brother, John L. Beeker, of Battle Ground. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home and will be a Christian Science service. The burial will be at Pretty Prairie. Friends are requested to omit flowers.


Eldora married Ashbel "Ash" P. Bailey, son of James R. Bailey and Elizabeth Lilly, on 14 Aug 1884 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe, IN.1 (Ashbel "Ash" P. Bailey was born on 18 Apr 1856 in New Albany, Floyd, IN,4 10 died on 8 Oct 1932 in Chicago, Cook, IL 4 11 and was buried on 10 Oct 1932 in Battle Ground: Pretty Prairie Cemetery, Tippecanoe, IN 4 11.)
