Stoakes, 63, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th Street, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the gathering space at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to King's Harvest Pet Rescue No Kill Shelter or the Iowa Ladies Football Academy in care of the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Dave passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 26, 2016.

David Edwin Stoakes was born on February 26, 1953 in Waterloo, Iowa, a son of George Robert and Nadine (Stuben) Stoakes. Dave was a talented athlete and was four year starter at Dysart-Geneseo High School in baseball, basketball, and football. After graduation he attended Iowa State University until his father got sick and he returned home to the family farm. Dave returned to school and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in accounting. He had a 4.0 grade point average until he started dating the love of his life, Penny Beecher! Penny and Dave were married on June 7, 1975 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer, Iowa. They have shared over 41 years of marriage together.

Dave went to work for McGladrey in Davenport shortly after graduation. He later became a partner at Musebach-Griffin, an accounting firm in the Tama/Toledo, Iowa area. Dave and Penny returned to the Quad Cities in 1989 when he began a career as a partner/accountant with Reiser, Jennings, & Company.

Dave was a great supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes and was a football season ticket holder and enthusiastic tailgater, nicknamed "The Godfather" by his nieces and nephews and other family members. He was a member of the University of Iowa President's Club and the Kinnick Society.

Dave was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved to golf. He was a past member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club and more recently a member of the Davenport Country Club. He also had a deep love for his Old English Sheep Dogs, Kelly, Lucy, and Maggie and their cat, Vince.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Penny, Bettendorf, son, Chris (Michel Hancock) Stoakes, Sycamore, IL; Michel's daughters Marly and Mia; brothers, Roger (Pat) Stoakes, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dennis (Sharon) Stoakes, Traer, Iowa, father-in-law, Richard Beecher, Bettendorf; brothers-in-law, Don Sievers, Lisbon, Iowa, Mark (Lori) Beecher, Box Elder, SD, David (Gail) Beecher, Vinton, Iowa, a sister-in-law, Jill Ewing, Traer, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Stoakes, his parents, siblings: Mary Sievers and Bryce Stoakes; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Beecher. May they rest in peace.
