3. Book: Records of Wenrich's Reformed Church (now St. Thomas United Church of Christ), Lower Paxton Township. Cemetery Records; Baptisms, 1791-1938, 1811. 11 From the book: There is dispute about a child of John and Elizabeth. Several published books report a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bucher, born 6 Jul 1811. However, our records on the Casper Bucher family were sent to the Wenrich Church at their request to help prepare a report on the eldest members of their church, we then received a reply from the church's Kathie Gifford:
"Mary Elizabeth Bucher, daughter of John and Elizabeth, does not exist in our church records. However, Johannes, with the exact same birthdate [6 Jul 1811] is listed in the baptisms. Right below him in the records is listed Mary Elizabeth PORTER; maybe someone made a mistake in the transcribing during their genealogy research."
Therefore our tree presents a son, John, and not a daughter Mary Elizabeth.

10. Book: A Portrait and biographical record of Allen and Van Wert Counties, Ohio, 1896. 4 John P. Bucher, a retired farmer and prominent citizen of Hoaglin township, Van Wert county, Ohio, was born in Richland county, Ohio, December 20, 1830, was reared on his father's farm, and farming, with the exception of nine years, in which he was engaged in carpenter work, has been his life vocation. His great-grandfather was a German by birth and was early a settler of Pennsylvania, in Dauphin county of which state John Bucher, grandfather of our subject, was born, was married to Elizabeth Plank, and was drafted to serve in the war of 1812.
John and his wife, Elizabeth, early came to Ohio and settled in Richland county, where he owned 1,000 acres of land, which he divided later among his children. In politics he was a Jackson democrat, and in religion both he and wife were adherents of the German Reform church, in the faith which both passed away in Richland county.
Their son, Peter Bucher, was born in Dauphin county, Pa., in 1801, was brought up a farmer and married, in Dauphin county, Elizabeth Light, daughter of John and Nancy (Lendes) Light. After the birth of three children in Dauphin county, Mr. and Mrs. Bucher came to Ohio and wrought out, from land his father had given him, a farm of 200 acres from the wilds of Richland county, and here the remained of their family was born the children appearing in the following order: Amos W., Harriet, Eliza, John P., Henry C., Joseph P., and Mary E. In politics Mr. Bucher was a democrat, and both he and wife were members of the German Reform church, and in this faith both died - the wife April 14, 1842, and the husband a number of years after.
John P. Bucher, the subject of this biography, was educated in the common schools of Richland county, Ohio, and on December 24, 1857, married Leah Baer, daughter of Abraham and Maria (Nischly) Baer, of Dauphin county, Pa., and this marriage was blessed by the birth of Henry F., October 21, 1859, and Mary E., (Mrs. Walburn of Van Wert), May 7, 1861. After his marriage, Mr. Bucher worked for two years at carpentering in Richland county and then came to Van Wert county, and the same year, 1859, bought his farm of 160 acres in Hoaglin township, of which he has deed eighty acres to his son and is reserving the remaining eighty acres for his daughter. This land is highly cultivated and improved with good house, barn and proper out-buildings.
Since his settlement here, Mr. Bucher has seen Van Wert county transformed from a wilderness, filled with bear, deer and turkeys and game of all kinds, as well as wolves and other beasts of prey, to its present garden-like beauty and prosperous agricultural and industrial condition. In politics, Mr. Bucher is a democrat; in religion he is a German Baptist; is a trustee and steward in his church, and is liberal in his financial aid to both church and school. He is well and favorably known in the county and township, and esteemed everywhere for his integrity and intelligence.
11. Book: Centennial Biographical History of Richland County, Ohio, 1901. 9 15 John H. Lautermilch. In a witty after-dinner speech Chauncey M. Depew once said: "Some men achieve greatness, some are born great and some are born in Ohio." To this last class Mr. Lautermilch belongs, for Ganges, in Blooming Grove township, is the place of this birth, his natal day being August 20, 1844. His parents, Conrad and Sarah (Bucher) Lautermilch, had three children, of whom two are living, John. H. and Elizabeth, now the wife of Reuben St. John, of Franklin township. The father was born in Baden, Germany, in 1808 but when sixteen years of age left the land of his nativity for America, settling in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, where he learned the trade of saddler and harness-maker. In the 30's he removed from the Keystone state to Ohio, taking up his abode in Richland county. He worked for some time at this trade as a journeyman in Shelby and Ganges and then settled in Planktown, where he established a business of his own. While residing there he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Bucher, who was born in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, about 1811, and came to Richland county with her parents in her childhood. Her father, John Bucher, was a native of Pennsylvania and on his arrival in Ohio purchased one hundred and sixty acres of land in Blooming Grove township, near the village of Ganges, his remaining days being spent upon his farm. About 1843 Mr. Lautermilch removed from Planktown to Ganges, where he conducted a saddlery and harness shop for a number of years. In 1853, however, he located on a farm of one hundred and sixty acres, which was his wife's patrimony and which is now the home of their son John. There the father resided until 1872, when he purchased forty-five acres in Franklin township, a few miles south of Ganges. He then removed to the new home, leaving our subject upon the old homestead. At his more recently acquired home he continued to reside until his death, which occurred in 1893. [...text continues about Lautermilch...].
