3. Obituary: Vidette-Messenger: obituary of Bertha Spiess on 10 Sep 1962 in Valparaiso, Porter, IN. 4 LACROSSE -- Mrs. Bertha Spiess, 87, a resident of LaCrosse, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday in Starke County Memorial hospital after an illness of six weeks.
Born in Heiden, Switzerland, April 15, 1875, she lived in the LaCrosse area for 54 years, coming from Forrest, Ill.
On March 12, 1895 in Forrest, she was married to Daniel Spiess, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Spiess was a member of the Apostolic Christian church in LaCrosse.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Tillie Siebenthal, LaCrosse, Mrs. Lena Meier, Plano, Ill., Miss Bessie Spiess, Gary, Mrs. Dorothy Gumz, North Judson, and Mrs. Clara Guilford, Gary; five sons, Carl, Wanatah, and Dan, Jake, Ernest and Walter, all of LaCrosse; 26 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, one son also preceded her in death.
Prayer services will be held Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. in Kosanke Brothers Funeral Home, Kouts.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Apostolic Christian church, LaCrosse, with the Rev. George Yergler and the Rev. Arthur Gudeman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery, LaCrosse.
Friends may call at Kosanke Brothers Funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
