2. Obituary: Gower Funeral Home: obituary of C. Lamar Derk on 4 May 2016 in Gilbert, Monroe, PA, United States. 2 Charles Lamar Derk, 94, a recent resident of Phoebe Homes, Allentown, died Wednesday May 4, in hospice care at Lehigh Valley Health Network.
He was born in Shamokin, PA on August 24, 1921, the son of Charles J. and Elva (Wolfe) Derk.

After receiving his Bachelor of Divinity degree and becoming ordained as a pastor, he initially served several churches in the EUB denomination. He later became affiliated with the United Church of Christ. He was the founding and organizing pastor of St. Matthew's UCC in Kenhorst, Reading, PA, and St. Andrew's U.C.C., Bridgeville, PA. He also served at Bethany UCC in Bethlehem and First United Church of Christ in Palmerton. Upon retirement, he attended Salem UCC in Gilbert and Church of the Manger UCC in Bethlehem. In 2007, he celebrated the 60th anniversary of his ordination.

Lamar had numerous other interests that often lead to involvement in various community groups - amateur radio, wood carving, community choral groups, square dancing and photography.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Edith (Werst) Derk, as well as his two sisters, Nancy Skoskie and Jean Herb. He is survived by his four children - one daughter, Judith I. McKendry and her husband Donald, of Maynard, MA; three sons - Charles R. Derk and his wife Vicki, of Easton, Timothy A. Derk and his wife April Miyasato, of Chandler, AZ, Joel L. Derk and his wife Patti, of Walnutport; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 10, 11 AM, at Salem UCC, 117 Corner Rd., Gilbert (the intersection of Rt. 209 and Gilbert Rd). Rev. David Schnaars and Rev. Sharon Solt Harfman will be co-officiating. Prior to the service, a viewing will take place at the church from 10 AM to 11AM.

Survivors: He is survived by four children: Judith I. McKendry and husband Donald of Maynard, MA; Charles R. Derk wife Vicki of Easton, Timothy A. Derk and wife April Miyasato of Chandler, AZ, Joel L. Derk and wife Patti of Walnutport; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife Edith (Werst) Derk, and two sisters, Nancy Skoskie and Jean Herb.

Services: Funeral services 11 am Tuesday May 10th at Salem UCC, 117 Corner Rd., Gilbert. a viewing will held at the church from 10 am until time of service.
