Born in Perkasie, on Sept. 12, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Lyman W. and Marnie (Bergey) Werst.

Most recently, Edith had worked as a secretary for the First United Church of Christ in Palmerton. Prior to that, she was a hairdresser.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert. She was very active in the church's women groups, Sunday School, and choirs of all the churches they served.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by one daughter, Judith I. McKendry and her husband Donald, of Maynard, Mass.; three sons, Charles Derk and his wife Vicki, of Easton, Timothy Derk and his wife April Miyasato of Chandler, Ariz., and Joel Derk and his wife Patricia, of Walnutport; two sisters, Ida Ruth of Perkasie, and Marion Nase of Sellersville; four brothers, Leonard Werst of Acton, Mass., Mervin Werst and Glenn Werst, both of Telford, and Roy Werst of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She was predeceased by a sister, Louise, who was the wife of the Rev. Ray Pottieger of Sellersville. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert. The Rev. Michael Eckroth officiated.
Interment was in Gilbert Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be made to the VNA Hospice of Monroe County, RR5, Box 5169, Suite 101, East Stroudsburg, Pa. 18301. Arrangements were by the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Gilbert.


Edith married Rev. Charles Lamar Derk on 27 Aug 1943 in Bucks, Pennsylvania, United States.1 (Rev.
