1. Occupation: minister. Rev. Jonas Franklin Bucher, a German Reformed minister, served as a missionary in China, where some of his children were born.

2. Census in 1880 in Milton, Northumberland, PA. 8 In the North Ward of Milton, Jonas F. Bucher, blacksmith, age 46, was living with wife Adeline, 38; Lizzie, 14; Mary, 12; Clara, 10; John N., 8; Jennie M., 5; and Jonas F., 2. They and their parents were born in Pennsylvania.

Newspaper: Miltonian, 11 May 1906, Milton, Northumberland, PA. 9 On Wednesday last Misses Lizzie and Mary Bucher went to Lancaster to witness the graduation of their brother, Frank, at the Franklin & Marshal Theogical Seminary. They were accompanied by Mrs. William Anspach and Mrs. Hull Knauer, also of St. John's Reformed Church, this place. The young man who takes order has always been a close and worthy student, and has provided for himself an eight year mission to China and he has the good wishes not only of the local congregation but of the church at large, as well as the people of the town.

Miss Miller is a daughter of the late Francis Miller and is a graduate of the Shamobin High school. Rev. Bucher was recently graduated from the Reformed Theological Seminary, at Lancaster. Several years ago, while the local pastor was on his vacation, Rev. Bucher served as pastor at Shamokin, and it was at this time that he met and fell in love with Miss Miller.

Former Lancaster Resident Spent 35 Years In China Mission Fields
Dr. J. Frank Bucher, sixty-nine, Egg Harbor, N. J., a retired missionary of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, and a former resident of this city, died at his home at 3:45 p. m.
Sunday, after a lengthy illness.
Dr. Bucher spent 35 years in the mission fields of China and was honored for his work when Franklin and Marshall College gave him the degree of Doctor of Divinity in 1941, a year after his return from China.
Born in Milton, Pa., the son of the late J. Frank and Adeline Wolf Bucher, Dr. Bucher attended Franklin and Marshall Academy and graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1903 and the Theological and Reformed Seminary in 1906. He received his Master's Degree from Columbia University when returned from

While serving in China. Dr. Bucher taught at the Lakeside School, Yochow, Hunan Province, and later at the Eastview Boy's School, Yuanling, Hunan Province.
Dr. Bucher is survived by his wife, Olive Miller Bucher, and the following children: Adeline, wife of Alan Werner, Corning, N. Y.: Martha, at home; Olive, wife of Stanley C. Weidman, Sinking Springs; Emeline, wife of Rev. Louis Ewald, Egg Harbor, N. J.; J. Frank, III, Eugene, Oregon; and Rev. John R. Bucher, Hyndman, Pa. Five grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Jane Bucher, Milton; and a brother, Fred Bucher, Warren, Ohio, also survive.

EGG HARBOR CITY, Aug. 4 - The Rev. J. Frank Bucher, prominent clergyman of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, died at his home, 142 Buffalo av., Sunday. He was born in Milton, Pa., June 17, 1878, and was known as an authority on China, having spent 35 years of his life there as a missionary and in charge of educational endeavors.
The Rev. Mr. Bucher served as principal East View schools in Yuanling. Many of his pupils are now prominent in Chinese education and government circles, including Major Ming Sen Li, who recently attended the American Medical Society convention in Atlantic City and visited his old teacher during the conclave.
The Rev. Mr. Bucher is survived by his wife, Olive Miller Bucher; two sons, J. Frank, of Eugene, Ore., and the Rev. John H.. of Hyndman, Pa.; four daughters, Mrs. Alan Werner, of Corning, N. Y.; Miss Martha Bucher, of Egg Harbor; Mrs. Stanley Weidman, of Sinking Spring, Pa., and Mrs. Louis Ewald of Egg Harbor; 6 grandchildren, a brother, Fred, of Warren, Oh., and a sister, Jennie, of Milton, Pa.
Funeral services will be held from St. Johns Reformed Church, this city, at 10 A. M. Thursday. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster, Pa. There will be a viewing at the church from 7 to 9 on Wednesday evening. Funeral arrangements being handled by the Robert C. Atwood funeral home.

Rev. J. Frank Bucher, D. D., 69, former assistant pastor of St. John Reformed Church and retired missionary, died yesterday in Egg Harbor, N. J., after a lingering illness. Death was attributed to a complication.
Rev. Bucher, who was born in Milton, was graduated from Franklin & Marshall College and the Theological Seminary connected with that school. He attended Columbia University, also. During his school career, Rev. Bucher served as an assistant pastor to Dr. C. B. Schneder in St. John Reformed Church. He also preached in Reformed churches in Fairview and Brady.
After he was ordained in 1906, Rev. Bucher married Miss Olive M. Miller, Shamokin, and later that year left for China, where he served as a missionary. He and his wife were stationed there when the Japanese invaded China, but they refused to leave. The missionary and his wife escaped from the Japanese in 1941, and after returning to United States, Rev. Bucher was given a charge in Woodstock, Va. He served there until he was forced into retirement because ill health.
Surviving are his wife and six children, Mrs. Adeline Werner, Corning, N. Y.; Miss Martha Bucher, New Jersey; Mrs. Olive Weidman, Sinking Springs; Mrs. Louis Ewald, Egg Harbor, N. J.; J. Frank Bucher, Jr., Oregon, and Rev. John R. Bucher, Maryland. A sister, Miss Jennie Bucher, Milton, survives, also.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 10:00 in Egg Harbor. Burial will be in Lancaster.
