Age 86, on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Masonic Village, Sewickley, PA. Born October 6, 1923 in Shenchow Fu, China in the Hunan Province. Son of the late Rev. Dr. J. Frank Bucher and Olive Mae (Miller) Bucher. Rev. Bucher was the youngest of eight children which all his siblings predeceased him. In 1927 Rev. Bucher moved from China to Lancaster, PA, he graduated from John Picrsol McCaskey High School and Franklin & Marshall College in 1944. Rev. Bucher attended Theological Seminary of Evangelical & Reformed Church where he graduated and was ordained in 1946 in the St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church Lancaster. Rev. Bucher served the Hyndman-Wellersbur Charge of the Pittsburgh Synod 1946-1949, First Church, Pitcairn of the Pittsburgh Synod 1949-1953, Uniontown Charge of the Susquehanna Synod 1953-1956, St. Mark's Church, McKeesport of the Pittsburgh Synod and Penn West Conference 1957-1966, St. Paul's Church, Pittsburgh Synod and Penn West Conference 1966-1972, Co-Pastored in the St. Peter's and St. Paul's Church Pittsburgh of the Penn West Conference 1972 and Birmingham United Church of Christ, Carrick, PA 01973 until his retirement in 1989. Rev. Bucher was active in the Pittsburgh Association and the Penn West Conference chairing and serving on numerous committees, including Church and Ministry, Church Extension, Committee on Mission Strategy. He served on many community and neighborhood boards and committees. He was very active in the Board of Delegates of the Christian Association of Southwest, PA. Rev. Bucher was described by his colleagues as having "exemplified the highest of qualitics" with his "strongest attributes in the area of program, counseling and creative leadership". Dr. Paul Westcoat, Jr. remembered John as being "ahead of his times' and "extremely intelligent". Rev. Bucher is survived by his wife I. Rosine (Ilgenfritz) Bucher also of the Masonic Village, Sewickley, PA. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Birmingham United Church of Christ, 25 Carrick Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15210. Officiating Pastor Patricia Mohr-Kelly. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
