6. Fact: A magazine article appeared in Coronet Magazine, Feb 1952.
Headline: Letters of Guilt
"Until he developed a surprising flaw, John Morcischek was the jewel beyond price -- the perfect butler. His employer, Mrs. Henrietta Bugher, prized him above any of the fabulous gems in her jewel case."
The story goes on to detail how the butler obtained the jewels and mailed them to a friend in New York City by the name of Hansen.
"Meanwhile, in New York, the postman delivered a package to the ten year old daughter of a furniture mover living in the east side apartment house. The girl's father almost collapsed when he returned home form work that evening and saw the rings, bracelets, pendants, and other treasures inside.
Certain that no one would send him such a present, he turned the jewels over to the police. They promptly identified them as Mrs. Bugher's and to his amazement Morcischek was charged with the theft.
For Hanlon the furniture mover lived in the same building as Hansen, Morcischek's friend. And in hurriedly addressing the package, Morcischek had scrawled an "se" that looked like looked all the world like "lo".

7. Fact: About the Bugher Foundation, 1961. 7 Established by Frederick McLean Bugher in 1961, the Henrietta B. & Frederick H. Bugher Foundation supports research in the field of cardiovascular disease, an affliction suffered by both of Mr. Bugher’s parents. In 2001, the Foundation provided generous support for research in UCR’s Division of Biomedical Sciences.
The American Heart Association/Bugher Foundation awards for Investigation of Stroke and The Henrietta B. and Frederick H. Bugher Foundation was established during Frederick Bugher's life and continues today to support research in cardiovascular disease. Both of Mr. Bugher's parents suffered from heart ailments. Originally limited to research within the District of Columbia, the foundation's reach now includes supporting research in the world.

In 1984 the foundation sought the guidance of the American Heart Association in identifying a focus for its research support. The association suggested much recent research had been done in the field of molecular biology, but very little had been done to bring molecular biology training to clinically-trained investigators.

As a result of a partnership between the Bugher Foundation and the American Heart Association, six Centers for Molecular Biology in the Cardiovascular System were funded and administered by the association from 1986-96, using a $9.4 million contribution from the Bugher Foundation. These centers were located at the following institutions:

Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, Texas)
Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston, Massachusetts)
Children's Hospital (Boston, Massachusetts)
Stanford University (Stanford, California)
University of California, San Diego (LaJolla, California)
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, Texas)

In 1998, the Bugher Foundation committed $7.5 million over the next eight years to support AHA-Bugher Foundation Awards for the Investigation of Stroke. The AHA-Bugher Foundation Awards for the Investigation of Stroke are intended to stimulate the development of better stroke preventive measures and better stroke interventions. Twenty-seven awards have been activated since January 2000.

This commitment enables the association to support another of its goals -- to expand research funded through the National Center to promising new areas by launching targeted research programs -- in this case focused on stroke research.
