1. Quaker: Certificate of Removal Granted by Buckingham Friends Meeting House on 7 Apr 1788 in Lahaska, Bucks, PA. 5 When Quaker families moved, they were granted a "removal certificate" by their Meeting to present to a new Meeting near their new residence, as proof they were Quakers in good standing. Joseph and Mary Paxson were given such a certificate at Buckingham Friends Meeting House on 7 Apr 1788. The meeting house still stands today at 5784 York Road in Lahaska, PA 18931.

Transcription:

"Joseph Paxson and Wifes Certificate
To the monthly Meeting of friends held at Sadsbury Lancaster County. Dear Friends. Our Friends Joseph Paxson and Mary his Wife having removed from us and settled within the Compass of your meeting have Requested Our Certificate to join in membership with you these may Inform that after necessary Enquiry made no other appears but that they have been in a good degree orderly. Frequently attended our religious meetings and settled their affairs to satisfaction amongst us. Therefore as members of our Society we recommend them with their six minor Children Viz. Aaron, Jonathan, Abigal, Esther, Jane & Ann to your Christian care & oversight desiring their growth in the truth we subscribe ourselves your friends brethren & sisters.
