1. Census in 1900 in Earl Twp., Lancaster, PA. 3 Living on Diller Avenue in New Holland in 1900, John B. Becher, tailor, 73, born Oct 1826, was married for 37 years to wife Mary E., nurse, 54, born Jun 1845. She had given birth to 8 children, 6 still alive in 1900. In their home: Garfield, farm laborer, 19, Jan 1881; Daniel, laborer, 16, Aug 1883; and Charles, laborer, 14, Mar 1886. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania, as was their parents, except John's father was from Germany and his mother from Ireland.

2. Obituary: The Gospel Herald on 11 Nov 1969. 1 Becher.- James Garfield, son of John and Mary (Mimm) Becher, was born in Lancaster Co., Pa., Jan. 10, 1881; died at the Osteopathic Hospital, Lancaster, Pa., Aug. 22, 1969; aged 88 y. 7 m. 12 d. On Feb. 10, 1910, he was married to Lydia Ann Newswanger, who survives. Also surviving are 3 children (Mrs. Edna Hershey, Clarence L., and Nora-Mrs. Daniel High), 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Stumptown Church, where funeral services were held Aug. 26, with Lloyd M. Eby and John G. Oberholtzer officiating.


James married Lydia Ann Newswanger, daughter of John G. Newswanger and Lydia Ann Wenger, on 10 Feb 1910.1 (Lydia Ann Newswanger was born on 5 Feb 1890 in , Lancaster, PA, died in 1972 5 and was buried in Bird in Hand: Stumptown Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, PA 5.)
