4. Obituary: Logansport Pharos-Tribune: obituary of Ellis L. Shafer on 7 Oct 1985 in Logansport, Cass, IN. ¹ ROYAL CENTER - Ellis L. Shafer, 70, Rt. 2, died at 7 a.m. Sunday at his residence. He was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Boone Township, to George A. and Mildred F. Robinson Shafer. He was married March 13, 1936, in Royal Center, to Mary Elaine Beecher, who survives. He was a farmer and a Polled Shorthorn cattle breeder. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church at Royal Center, Royal Center Lions Club, Logansport Evening Exchange Club, Eagles Lodge, National Corn Growers' Association and Indiana Polled Shorthorn Association. His bulls won three international grand championships and his grain won one grand championship at the International Livestock Show, Chicago. One bull won champion at the Indiana State Fair. He was the leading scorer on the 1970 bowling state champions, which, at the time had the state's second highest team score ever. Also surviving are his parents, George and Mildred Shafer, Rochester; a daughter, El Raye Hoyt, Torrence, Calif.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A brother preceded in death. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Royal Center, with .the Revs. James E. Cheney and Howard Western officiating. Burial will be in Royal Center Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday or from 8 a.m. until services Wednesday in the funeral home.
