David and Kathryn were married for 37 years and she had birthed 10 children by 1910, 5 still alive that year.. 2. Census in 1920 in Erie, Erie, PA. 12 The 1920 census recorded renting at 512 East 10th Street: Calvin M. Beecher, bookkeeper packing house, 32, living with wife Jane, 30; David, 10; and Calvin, 9. Everyone and their parents were born in Pennsylvania. 3. Census in 1930 in Erie, Erie, PA. 13 The 1930 census recorded renting at 913 Ash Street: Calvin Beecher, office manager window glass store, 43, living with wife Jane, 41; David, clerk electric works, 19; and Calvin, clerk electric works, 18. Census in 1940 in Kearney City, Kearney, NE. 15 The 1940 census recorded at 116 26th Street: David R. Beecher, clergyman, 30, born in Pennsylvania, living with wife Ruth I. Beecher, 24, born in Illinois, and daughter Macella M. Beecher, 1, born in Nebraska. In 1935 they were living in Chicago, Illinois. 6. Newspaper: Tallahassee Democrat, 18 Sep 1945, Tallahassee, Leon, FL. 17 Five new chaplains have arrived here and are assisting with services in all of the areas. Assigned to the camp is Catholic Chaplain Anthony M Conway of Indianapolis, Ind. He is a graduate of the army school for chaplains at Harvard University and served at Fort Jackson, S. C. and Camp Rucker, Ala. The four other chaplains came to Gordon Johnston from Europe as members of the 5th and 6th Engineer Special Brigades. Maj. Morris C. McEldowney of Melrose, Mass. landed on Omaha Beach in the Normandy invasion with the 5th ESB, and has 21 months oversees service to his credit. 1st Lt. Arthur S. Joice, Fulton. N. Y., the other 5th ESB chaplain, attended Ft. Devens army school for chaplains. He went overseas and was attached to the 5th ESB at Le Havre, France. Maj. David R. Beecher came in to the army Feb. 1941 from his pastorate in Kearney, Neb. He had 53 days and nights of combat with the 89th Infantry Division in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. The end of the war in Europe came while he was in Zwizkan, Germany. He was transferred to the 6th ESB a few months later. Chaplain Eugene S Schmidt, Lutheran minister from Milwaukee, Wisc, came into the army from his church in Beloit. He went to France with the 1156th Engineer Combat group and later was transferred to the 6th ESB. 8. Census in 1950 in Olney, Richland, IL. 18 The 1950 census recorded at 127 South Elliot St: Rev. David R. Beecher, clergyman, 40, living with wife Ruth, 34; Marcella M. 11; and Ruth J., 9, and David V. C., 3, born in Illinois. The other children were born in Nebraska, Ruth in Illinois and David Sr. in Pennsylvania. 9. Newspaper: Pittsburgh Press: "The Rev. David R. Beecher, who has accepted a call to the First Baptist Church, Homestead, will leave his present charge in Olney, Monday.
