1. Obituary: Lancaster Intelligencer Journal on 28 Jun 2002 in Lancaster, Lancaster, PA. 3 Willis B. Denlinger, 79, of 118 Huntingwood Drive, formerly of 51 Riverside Ave., died of natural causes Wednesday at Essa Flory Hospice Center.

Denlinger retired in 1982 after 41 years as a cable splicer and switchman for Bell of Pennsylvania. Earlier, he worked for American Telephone & Telegraph Co. in New York. In retirement, he did small electrical and telephone repairs.

A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a torpedoman first class with Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 23. He later served on the USS Sumner in the Solomon Islands.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 34 and the Brendle-Coleman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8795 in Adamstown.

Denlinger was a member of Lancaster Liederkranz and Bell Telephone Pioneers. He was past master of Andrew H. Hershey Masonic Lodge 764 and a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 27.

Denlinger enjoyed reading The Strasburg News and periodicals and attending PT boat and destroyer reunions. A 1940 graduate of the former Paradise High School, he also graduated from the former Coyne Electrical School in Chicago.

Born in Paradise Township, he was the son of the late Willis B. and Mae Buckwalter Denlinger. His wife, Stella M. Beecher Denlinger, died in 1998.

Surviving are a daughter, Faith A., married to John N. Hollern, with whom he lived; a son, Bruce A., married to Trudi Quinn Denlinger of Bethlehem; two grandchildren; and four sisters, Elva, married to Ellis Rowe of Lancaster, Ann Denlinger of Elizabethtown, Erma Brown of Columbia and Jeanette B., married to Park Miller of New Holland.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Phares.


Willis married Stella Mae Beecher, daughter of Norman Beecher and Nettie Mae Steigelman, on 8 May 1946 in , Lancaster, PA.1 2 (Stella Mae Beecher was born on 26 Jun 1928 in Lancaster, Lancaster, PA,1 5 died on 4 May 1998 in , Lancaster, PA 1 2 3 5 6 and was buried in Paradise Township: Paradise Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, PA 5.)
