Two Bowling Leagues Made Up of 137 Boys

SPRINGFIELD -- The 137 boys in the SAA bowling school have been divided into two leagues of 10 teams each and will begin their team play next Saturday. The boys received their final instruction lessons and completed their practice sessions at the Stoney Creek Park Bowling Alleys last Saturday.
It was at this same session of the bowling school that Doug Beecher, 10, won a pair of bowling shoes in a Cinderella contest. Twenty boys, whose feet fit the size 4 shoes, were eligible for the contest, but Beecher won the shoes since his score of 93 was the highest.
All the other boys in the school had a chance to win another pair of shoes in a lucky number contest. Randy Young won this prize.

6. Newspaper: Delaware County Daily Times, 27 Feb 1964, Chester, Delaware, PA. 7 County Matmen Vie for Kisses
CHELTENHAM \endash DELAWARE COUNTY'S best high school wrestlers aren't a bit bashful. They all want to be kissed Friday night before a capacity crowd. And perhaps they will. It's all part of the pageantry which goes with the District One wrestling tournament here. The champion of each division receives a medal and a kiss from the tournament queen.
Two of Coach Dick Shoemaker's Springfield High School Cougars hope to be standing in line when the good part starts. Darryl Beacher, a young man from a family of successful wrestlers, will represent the Suburban Conference in the 112-pound division and Mike Knapp will vie for the 145-pound pennant. Beacher has two brothers who are also wrestling champions. DUANE BEACHER is the oldest. He won the District One title three straight years and went to the state semifinals as a senior, 103-pounder.
He's now a member of Lehigh University's nationally known team. As a sophomore, he competed in and won several varsity matches this season. Doug Beacher is the unfortunate member of the trio, A junior, Doug was defending conference champ, but a knee injury kept him out of district competition for 103-pound honors this season. If Darryl happens to lose Friday, it will be the first time he's ever lost a dual match.
He took up the sport as a 7th grader and has gone undefeated through his sophomore year.
