Mrs. Margaret Pickering, wife of J. C. Pickering, of 523 North Third street, passed away last night at 8:30 o'clock, at the family residence. The deceased was nearly 82 years of age. She leaves a husband and four children to mourn her death. The family has resideded in Arkansas City for the past 39 years, having come here from Illinois in October, 1879. The children are Mrs. Geo. Duncan, of Patterson, Calif., Mrs. G. A. Beecher, of this city, Mrs. Elva Neal, of Monmouth, Oregon and Walter S. PIckering, of Guthrie, Okla. All are here at present, except Mrs. Neal.
Mrs. Pickering had been ailing for some time past and had been critically ill for the past two weeks. She was one of the best known women in the city and she was greatly loved by all who knew her. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and in her death, the community loses a noble and faithful character. She would have been 82 years old had she lived until June 28th.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pickering are to be held Sunday afternoon at the First M. E. church.
