Newspaper: Republican and Herald: obituary of Joseph Derrick, 30 Oct 1928, Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA. 7 MINE WORKER, DIED TODAY Joseph Derrick, 54 years old, died at 11:30 o'clock this morning at the Locust Mountain State Hospital, where he had been a patient for a week. On Friday last an operation was performed with the hope of staying his life, but he grew weaker until the final summons. He was born in Shenandoah and resided here all his life. He was employed in the mines and continued to work until ten days' ago. The deceased was well known and enjoyed a large circle of friends. He took an active part in the fire department, and was one of the oldest members of the Rescue Hook and Ladder Company. He was also a member of the State Firemen's Association and the local lodge of Reindeers. Mr. Derrick is survived by his widow, sisters, Mrs. Edward Kantner, Cleveland, O.; Mrs. George Williams, of town, and Mrs. Richard J. Parsons, of Pittsburgh. He is further survived by one brother, William, of Pittsburgh, and two stepbrothers, Nathan and Albert Beacher.
