Glenn Beecher, 85, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, formerly of Allegheny Township, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, in Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot. He was born April 2, 1922, in Allegheny Township, a son of the late C. Ward Beecher, who died in 1953, and Goldie Viola (Riggle) Beecher, who died in 1977. He had been a lifelong resident of Allegheny Township, living in Beecher Court, Zimmerman plan for 48 years, before moving to Concordia Lutheran Ministries in 1996. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 56th Fighter Control Squadron in the Pacific Theater as a corporal. He was a machinist in the maintenance department at West Leechburg Works of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation for 37 years, until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leechburg, the Retirees of the United Steelworkers of America in Leechburg, the F and AM of Leechburg, the Scottish Rite of Coudersport Consistory and the Kiski Valley Coudersport Club, Allegheny Lions Club, the Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society and the Allegheny Valley Historical Society in Tarentum and spent numerous years on his church's council. He enjoyed traveling. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen R. (Zimmerman) Beecher; two sons, Mark K. (Ann) Beecher of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Kevin G. Beecher of Allegheny Township; two daughters, Jennifer (Joseph) Foley of Coraopolis and Christine A. Bollinger and her fiance, Dr. James Wells, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; six grandchildren, Dennis and Christopher Foley, Jennifer (Jeff) Simmons, Kathleen Davis, Amy Beecher and Kevin L. (Melissa) Beecher; and 11 great-grandchildren, Garret and Mason Foley, Grant and Samuel Foley, Brandon, Stacey, Mary and Michael Simmons, Jonathan Davis, Carrigan and Kayla Beecher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul R. Beecher. There will be no public visitation. A memorial ceremony will be held in the Spring of 2008 in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Leechburg. Interment will be made in Brookland Cemetery, Allegheny Township. Arrangements entrusted to CLAWSON'S, Second at Main streets, Leechburg. Howard married Helen Rhae Zimmerman. (Helen Rhae Zimmerman was born on 24 May 1923 in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland, PA,7 8 died on 9 Oct 2012 in Cabot, Butler, PA 8 and was buried in Bagdad: Brookland Cemetery, Westmoreland, PA.) |
