Twardzik well-known Shenandoah resident, died in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville. = Frank Twardzik Succumbs After A Brief Illness = Frank M. Twardzik, who was selected as one of Shenandoah's outstanding citizens 1949, passed away at 2 p.m. Monday in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, following a brief illness. Mr. Twardzik, who resided at 218 North Main street, Shenandoah, had been hospitalized since July 6. Active for years in numerous charitable programs, he was a charter member of the Schuylkill County Crippled Children's Society and helped organize the association, He served annually on the fundraising committee and had dedicated countless time in a period of over 20 years activities of the society. He represented the Kiwanis Club when the society was formed. Mr. Twardzik was a member of the board of directors of the Shenandoah Red Cross Chapter and the Playground Association, He served on numerous occasions on the drive committees of the community's Salvation Army unit, and was also on this board of directors. A charter member of the Polish American Fire Company, Shenandoah, he was an honorary life was also a former the member of this organization. He was also a former trustee of the Shenandoah Elks Lodge. In 1947 and 1948 he was president of the Shenandoah City Baseball League and also assisted in maintaining the Junior Baseball League here. In his earlier days, he was a well-known catcher for the Shenandoah South End Cubs. Mr. Twardzik was a member of executive board of the Appalachian Trail Council Boy Scouts. During scout activities in town in past years he was chairman of Elks Troop No. 24 and chairman of the County Camping at Blue Mountain. He as responsible for the erection of permanent cabins at the Blue Mountain Camp. In the old days he was a trombonist in the Polish Warsaw Band in Shenandoah and served as president of that organization. During the depression he was captain of the Relief Registry team and helped distribute relief to the needy. In 1925 he supported a soup kitchen during the mine suspension. This was held in the storeroom occupied by the K&K Auto Parts. His membership included following: Charter member of the POlish American Fire Company; trustee at the Elks Lodge No. 945; director of the Playground Association, Red Cross Chapter, Salvation Army, Crippled Children's Society and Boy Scout movement. He was a member of the executive board of the Crippled Children's Society, past president of the baseball league here and vice president of the Salvation Army advisory board. In addition, he was also a member of the Shenandoah Realty Protective Association. Religiously, Mr. Twardzik was a devout member of St. Casimir's Church and the Holy Name Society of that parish. Born in Shenandoah, he was married to the former Mary Binek. Surviving in addition to his wife, are six children: Frances, wife of Frank Gish; Eleanor, wife of Henry Zale; John, W. Frank and Ted, all of Shenandoah, and Louis, of Nashville, Tenn., and 15 grandchildren. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Jacob J. Twradzik, Shenandoah: Mrs. Paul Voynor, Shenandoah Heights; Joseph, Mrs. Lawrence Jerzak, Mrs. William Tomcavage, Miss Margaret Twardzik, Walter and Paul Twardzik, all of Shenandoah, and Mrs. Richard Schumacher, of New York City, Funeral services will be held Friday. Frank Naja has charge.
