1. She emigrated Documents in the early 1900s state the Twardzik family emigrated to the U.S. From Galacia, Austria, which after World War I was divided into southeastern Poland and western Ukraine. In 1883 from , , , POL. The Twardziks departed Hamburg, Germany on 20 Jun 1883 on the ship Lessing and that passenger list recorded John Twardzik emigrated from Samokleski which today is in Jaslo, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland, but in 1883 was part of Austria. They arrived in New York on 5 Jul 1883. The 1925 obituary of Josephine Mroczka Twardzik states she came to America "40 years ago". The 1914 marriage license of her son Joseph states his parents were born in "Austria Galacia". Galacia is a historical region spanning what is today southeastern Poland and western Ukraine, part of of the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth. Galicia became part of Austria in 1772 during the First Partition of Poland, when the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was divided among Russia, Prussia, and Austria. Austria acquired the southeastern portion of the commonwealth, which became known as the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria.
On 10 Mar 1897, immigrant John Twardzik appeared in the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas and upon his solem oath did say he is a native of Austria aged 38 years and intended to become a citizen of the United States and renounced his allegiance to Francis Joseph of Austria.

Obituary: Evening Herald: obituary of Josephine Twardzik on 28 Apr 1925 in Shenandoah, Schuylkill, PA. 6 Mrs. Josephine Twardzik, Josephine, widow of John Twardzik, and mother of School Director Jacob Twardzik, died 12:45 this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Jerzak, Jardin and Penn streets. Death was due to pneumonia. Mrs. Twardzik was taken ill on Friday last and everything possible was done to stay the hand of death, but she gradually grew weaker and died at the time stated. The deceased was born in Poland 64 years ago. She came to Shenandoah forty years ago and resided here until the time of death, was a member of St. Casimir's Polish Catholic church and was well known and held in high esteem. The following adult children survive: Mrs. Paul Voynar, Mrs. Lawrence Jerzak, Mrs. William Tomcavage, Miss Margaret, at home, Miss Anna, a student nurse at the University of Pennsylvania hospital, Philadelphia; Jacob, Joseph, Frank, Walter and Paul Twardzik. Twenty-four grandchildren also survive.
