Rachel E., widow of Philip Baker Ottey, died in Parkesburg, at the age of about 93 years. She was the eldest daughter of Jonathan and Catharine Beecher Paxson, and granddaughter of Joseph and Mary Heston Paxson, who moved into Sadsbury township, Chester county, from Bucks county, in the year 1788 with their 13 children, and settled on the farm and in the same house where she was born on the 3d of March, 1807. She always lived on the property, excepting five years, and passed away in the house where she was born. She had six brothers and four sisters, all deceased except three, Levi B., the last and youngest brother, resides in Reading; Rachel, widow of James L. McClellan, of Lenover, lives with her daughter, Catharine Heston, in Parkesburg; and Matilda, her youngest sister, widow of Isaac L. Wilde, of Atglen, lives with her only daughter, Catharine Porter, in Baltimore. She left two sons and one daughter, Jonathan Paxson Ottey, with whom deceased had her home; Joseph F., Sadsbury, and Henrietta, wife of Andrew B. Mailtland, of Parkesburg.
