!ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Source-8 In the year 1889 or thereabouts, thanks to the efforts of such men as Messrs. J.L. Graham (Tuscola), Tom Fisher (Oklahoma), B.C. Gaither (Merkel) Thomas Knaus (deceased), C. P. Booker (Tuscola), and Dr. O.V. Cash (San Benito), sufficient funds were donated by prospective patrons for the erection of a one-room building.

Source-9 C..P. BOOKER came into the Buffalo Gap area in 1879 and some time thereafter he married Kate Fulwiler, daughter of J.W. Fulwiler. To this union there were born at least four children: Kate, Cecil, Jocie, and Claud. Mr. Booker acquired a section of land along the Abilene-Ballinger road some three miles to the northwest of "Old" Tuscola. This was one of the best farms in the Tuscola Valley and on the farm the Bookers constructed one of the most beautiful homes in the entire area. Mrs. Booker was a great lover of flowers and her yard was, for many years, the showplace of the territory.
C.P. Booker was always interested in education and the religious life of the community. He, along with Capt. Ben F. Jones, C.B. Gaither, John L. Graham and others, in 1882, erected a one-room school building near the Jones ranch and about a mile and a half from the Booker place. This one-room school continued to serve that area of the valley for many years. Later with the development of the "Old" Tuscola community some two and one half miles to the southeast of the Booker home a new two-room school was built about one half mile from the "Old" Tuscola store and postoffice. Later a third upstairs room was added. Mr. Booker was active in the building of this school.
I take the following from a little book called A TWICE TOLD HISTORY OF JIM NED VALLEY, compiled by, Tuscola Home Demonstration Club, 1969:
"On Easter Sunday, 1898, a Union Sunday School was organized. Sixty three children were there. Knox Fuller, a Presbyterian, was elected superintendent. Minnie Graham, a Baptist, was elected secretary. treasurer. Torn McCormick, a Nazarene and J.L. Groves, and C.P. Booker, Methodists, were elected teachers. Lelia Wright. a Baptist. was organist.' ,
For many years, Mr. Booker taught a class and at the same time acted as superintendent of the Sunday School. Mr. John L. Graham had donated the land on which the church was constructed and Mr. Booker headed a group of men who raised the necessary money to buy the lumber and the men of the communty did the construction of the church. The one survivor of the family is Mrs. Kate Booker Cousseaux, 709 Lexington, Abilene, Texas.
