Miss Carol Ann Beecher and Phillip M. Rains were married outside of Maria Creek Chapel on the VU campus at 7:30 on Aug. 25. The Rev. Franklyn Schroeder performed the double ring ceremony. Miss Deborah Deem was organist. Pink gladioli and carnations, palms and candelabra set off the altar area. Pink and white candles lined the walks around the sides of the chapel. The bride's sisters were her attendants Miss Linda Beecher, maid of honor, and Miss Judy Beecher, bridesmaid. Harold Turner was best man. A brother of the bride, Richard Beecher, was groomsman. Another brother, Stephen Beecher, with the groom's brother, Gary L. Rains of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., were ushers. Miss Linda Beecher made both her dress for the wedding and the bridemaid's dress. Both featured dotted swiss skirts, the maid of honor's in pink, the bridesmaid's in white. Both wore white blouses featuring Victorian collars and bishop sleeves. Both wore large pink sashes. Tiny flowers enhanced their pale pink dotted swiss headpieces. For her wedding, the bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a silk organza gown in princess-empire silhouette. Pink ribbon lace overlaid the bodice that featured a Victorian collar and deeply cuffed bishop sleeves. The softly gathered skirt continued into a full chapel train, with bow at back waist. A lace Camelot headpiece secured her bouffant silk illusion veil Her flowers were a nosegay of white carnations, and pink roses. Reception following was in the chapel social room. Parents of the couple are the Walter Beechers of Ft. Knox Road, Mrs. Rebecca Rains of Indianapolis, and Robert Rains of Iowa City, Iowa. The bride, who was graduated from Lawrence Central High in Indianapolis, attended VU last semester and was employed in Alicetown Restaurant. Her husband, a VU graduate, is a student at Indiana University and is employed by Sears, Roebuck in Bloomington. After a honeymoon in Spring Mill State Park, the couple is residing at 2106 E. Second St., Apt. 14, Bloomington.
