1. Obituary: Daily Star: obituary of Sarah Meily Krause on 23 Jan 1917 in Marion, Marion, OH. 6 MRS. DANIEL KRAUSE DIES AT EIGHTY-NINE
Helped To Nurse Cholera Victims Here in 1854.
PASSING OF A NOBLE WOMAN LATE TODAY
Had Been Ill About Two Weeks, Her Death Being Expected Some Time.

Mrs. Sarah Krause, one of the oldest residents of this city, passed away this afternoon about 2 o'clock at her home, No. 517 north State street, after having been confined to her bed only the past two weeks. Her death was due to congestion of the lungs and the infirmities of age, she having celebrated her eighty-ninth birthday, December 3.
Perhaps no one was better known among the older residents of Marion than Mrs. Krause, she having resided in this city since 1848, coming here about two years after her marriage to Daniel B. Krause, at Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where, as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Miley, she was born December 3, 1827.

Nurses Cholera Victims.
When the epidemic of Asiatic cholera broke out in Marion during the summer of 1854 Mrs. Krause willingly and unfalteringly went among the cholera victims, some of whom had been deserted by their friends, and tenderly nursed them. She thereby endangered herself to the early residents of Marion. Not only did she give her life unselfishly to the service of others, but, aside from rearing her large family \emdash she being the mother of eight children \emdash she took into her home at the age of three months her nephew, Frank Linn, now of Marion, Indiana, and gave him a home with her children. She not only reared her nephew, but she also gave a home to Sena Van Norman, who came to her when a girl of ten years. She now resides in Michigan. The Krause home during those early days was known for its hospitality and any one needing help always found both that and sympathy with Mrs. Krause and her family.
Attends Baptist Church.
Always when able Mrs. Krause attended the Baptist church. Mrs. Krause has resided for many years in the home where she passed away, and with her resided her son, Alonzo Krause and his family and her brother, Albert Miley. The husband of Mrs. Krause died about twenty-seven years ago and three of her children also preceded her in death. She is survived by five sons, Alonzo, William H., George and Harry Krause, of this city, and Daniel Krause, of San Francisco; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mahlon and Albert Miley, of this city, and a sister, Mrs. H. DeProsse of Norwich, Connecticut.
