6. Newspaper: Delaware County Times: Auto injuries fatal to Upland man, 25, 2 Jun 1971, Chester, Delaware, PA. 2 A 25-year-old Upland man who was critically injured in an automobile accident Sunday in Lower Chichester, died at Sacred Heart Hospital, Chester, at 3 a.m. today.
William Beecher of 1006 Woodside Ave. had been in guarded condition in the hospital's intensive care unit since the accident at 2:35 a.m. at Market Street below 9th Street, Linwood.
According to Lower Chichester Police Chief Russell Cheyney, who witnessed the accident while stopped for a traffic light on Market Street, Beecher was heading north over the bridge toward Linwood when it appeared his tire hit the curb, causing the car to turn sideways across the street.
A southbound car driven by Mrs. Rose Sobol, 57, of 3409 W. 3rd St., Chester, hit Beecher's car then continued moving and hit a parked car belonging to Louis Edge, 1344 Market St., knocking it onto the sidewalk.
Cheyney said no charges would be filed against Mrs. Sobol since Beecher's car skidded in front of her car and she could not avoid hitting him.
Beecher was knocked under the dashboard on the passenger side and it took members of the Linwood Fire Co. about 20 minutes to free him.
He suffered a punctured lung, fractured right thigh and broken collar bone.
Mrs. Sobol had some teeth knocked out and was treated at the hospital for cuts and bruises.
Mr. Beecher attended Upland Schools and served in the U.S. Army for four years. He was stationed in Germany.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Adele Beecher of Parkside, and one daughter, Valerie, 2; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beecher of 1006 Woodside Ave., Upland; three sisters, Mrs. Dare McBride of Upland, Mrs. Dale King of Chester, and Tammy Beecher, at home; and two brothers, Jeffrey, at home; and Donald, of Aston.
