7. Obituary: Reading Eagle: obituary of Melva I. Davis on 3 Jun 2002 in Reading, Berks, PA. ⁵ Melva I. Davis, 92, formerly of East Elm Street, Shillington, died Jun 22 at 9:40 a.m. in Berks Heim, where she had resided since August 1994. Her husband, Elmer M. Davis, died Jan. 13, 1974. Born in Mohnton, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Minerva G. (Glaymyre) Bicher. Davis was employed for many years as a sewing machine operator by various knitting mills, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Congreational Church, Mohnton. Surviving are a daughter, Marian E. (Davis) Gordon, Mohrsville, and two sons, Donald M., West Reading, and Vincent J., Shillington. Other survivors include a sister, Esther (Bicher) Flickinger, Green Hills Manor, Cumru Township. There are also nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Joseph D. Giles Funeral Home Inc. & Crematorium, Mohnton. Burial will be in Mohnsville Cemetery, Mohnton.
