Edward M. Johnson Of Otterbein Dead
---
OTTERBEIN, Jan. 31. -- Edward Morton Johnson, 65, prominent resident of this community, and widely known in Benton county, died at St. Elizabeth hospital, Lafayette, this morning of a heart attack following a siege of pneumonia. Son of B. F. and Mary (Fox) Johnson, pioneers, he was born in Oxford where Academy Park is now situated, the family moving to Fowler when he was two. He was graduated from Franklin college with a Ph. B. degree in 1902 and in 1903 he married Pearl Baker.
He was a staunch republican in politics, a trustee of the Otterbein Methodist church, a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and a community leader for more than 30 years. He was formerly president of the Benton county Farm Bureau. The Sumner Baker farm where he lived so long was sold last spring and he was planning to move into Otterbein when he was taken ill. His widow survives, with a son, Paul Baker Johnson, of Greenwood, and a brother, Leland F. Johnson, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Johnson's father, B. F. Johnson, was Indiana state statistician during Governor J. Frank Hanly's regime, Edward Johnson serving as assistant. The father was also Benton county superintendent of schools. Funeral arrangements later.
