Baker, 61, died at 10:30 a.m, Tuesday at Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he had been a patient since Saturday following a stroke at his home. He lived on Rt. 5, Monticello, locally and they had moved to Florida 18 months ago from there. He was born in Lafayette and a life resident of this area until moving to Florida. He owned and operated what is now known as the Baker Purdue Farms near Montmorenci. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1926 and from Purdue University with a degree in civil engineering in 1931. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Elks Lodge and was one of the early pioneer pilots from the old Shambaugh Airport. During World War II he was chief pilot for the Purdue Aeronautical School, active in training pilots at the university. He married Frances H. Hession in Lafayette in 1931. She is the only survivor.
