Mrs. George D. Parks, Prominent Resident of City, Passes Away; Charitable and Beloved.
Mrs. George D. Parks died Saturday evening, November 27, at 7:30 at the family residence, on the corner of Ninth and Union Streets, succumbing to pernicious anemia. Mrs. Parks was born in Boston, Mass., on the 23rd day of October, 1858. Her maiden name was Anna S. White and she was the daughter of Frederick W. and Normanda P. White, whose ancestors were of old New England stock dating back to the Mayflower. Soon after her birth, her parents moved from Boston to Bowdoinham, Maine, her father's native town, where she continued to reside with her parents until her marriage. On the 8th day of June, 1881, she was married to George D. Parks, a graduate of the University of Maine, class of 1876, at that time a young practicing lawyer of Brunswick, Maine. There was born to their marriage, two children, Roscoe White Parks and Morris Randlett Parks, who were born respectively in the years 1882 and 1885. In 1890 the family moved to Ft. Payne, Alabama, and in 1893 came to Lafayette, Indiana.
SURVIVING RELATIVES. She leaves surviving her, her husband, George D. Parks, a well known attorney of Lafayette, and her two sons, Roscoe and Morris. Roscoe W. Parks is a graduate of Purdue university, class of 1902, and is now head of manufactures of Grassella Chemical company, residing at Elizabeth, New Jersey. He married Elizabeth Hamilton, of Bayonne, New Jersey and they have one daughter, Ruth Hamilton Parks, eight years of age. Morris R. Parks is a graduate of Purdue university, class of 1907 and a graduate of Indiana law school, class of 1909, and is now prosecuting attorney in Tippecanoe county, and is engaged in the general practice of law with his father under the firm name of Parks and Parks. He married Ruby M. Beeker, a graduate of Indiana university, class of 1910, and they have one child, John Morris, age three. She is also survived by her mother, Normanda P. White, of Haverhill, Mass., and two brothers, Roscoe H. White, of Orange, Mass., and Fred S. White, of Haverhill, Mass., and two sisters, Georgia W. White and Mrs. Lida V. Kempton, of Haverhill. Mrs. Parks at an early age became a member of the Baptist church located on the beautiful Bowdoinham ridge in the state of Maine, and was for years up to the time of her marriage the organist in that church. She was of a musical family and had a keen interest and enjoyment in good music throughout her life. She possessed all the sterling virtues of a woman of the New England Puritan stock. She was an accomplished homemaker and an inspiration to her husband and children. She was broad-minded and unselfish to the highest degree, and very much interested in the charities of the First Baptist church of Lafayette, of which she was a member from the time she came to Lafayette, and for many years served upon the committee to look after the poor and sick of that church. She gave of her strength to the ministries of the sick and the poor to its limit. She possessed a wide circle of acquaintances and friends in Lafayette, and at times presided in various clubs and ladies' organizations. For several years she had been an invalid and suffered much pain and distress, yet throughout her whole life, she was remarkable for her cheerfulness, patience and courage. She was a genuine optimist. The funeral services will be held at the residence at No. 805 North Ninth street on Wednesday, December 1, at 2:30 p. m.
