Former Prosecutor, Judge Dies
--
Morris R. Parks, 76, former Tippecanoe county prosecutor and later West Lafayette city judge, died at 6:29 a.m. Sunday at William Ross annex. He had been in failing health for five years and a patient at the annex since late April. The family home is at at 491 Maple, West Lafayette. Mr. Parks served as county prosecutor from 1920 to 1924; was West Lafayette city attorney for 30 years and from 1953 to 1955 was West Lafayette city judge. In addition, he was U.S. commissioner for many years. He retired from law practice in 1958. He was born in Brunswick, Me., and moved with his family to Fort Payne, Ala., when four years old. Four years later his family traveled through Lafayette en route to Chicago for the World's fair and liked the city so well they made it their home. Mr. Parks was graduated from Purdue university in 1907 and from the Indiana Law school in 1909. He joined his father, George D. Parks, in the practice of law. In 1915 he was married to Ruby M. Beeker. She was Tippecanoe county Republican vice chairman for 12 years and also headed the county auto license bureau. Mr. Parks was a member of First Baptist church and was formerly a deacon in the church. He was a 50-year member of IOOF Merger Lodge 5 and its financial secretary for 20 years; was a member of F&AM Lodge 492 and the Tippecanoe County Bar association. Surviving are the widow and two sons, Dr. John M. Parks of Cleveland, O., and Lt. Col. Robert W. Parks, with the U.S. Army at Giessen, Germany.


Morris married Ruby Mildred Beeker, daughter of John Lincoln Beeker and Ada Josephine Shigley, on 19 Oct 1915 in Battle Ground, Tippecanoe, IN.1 2 (Ruby Mildred Beeker was born on 10 Sep 1890 in Tippecanoe Township, Tippecanoe, IN,13 died on 17 Feb 1975 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe, IN 6 13 and was buried in West Lafayette: Grand View Cemetery, Tippecanoe, IN 13.)
