Lafayette's amateur golf ranks, liberally sprinkled with fine players of all ages, welcomed still another new name into its ranks of City Golf Champions Sunday when youthful Jerry Beeker defeated Art Lemmon over the Lafayette Country club layout, 2 and 1.
Beeker, former Jeff high ace and already halfway through his senior year at Purdue at age 21, was two down after seven holes. But his knowledge of his home course served him in good steed as he methodically chopped up his rival, who calls Elks Country club his home course.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis E. Beeker, 1601 Stanforth Ave., were at Monticello, Ill., to attend the wedding of their son, 2nd Lt. Jerry Lewis Beeker, to Miss Ann Gregg Shoemaker. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shoemaker of Monticello. The ceremony was performed in the Monticello Methodist Church by the Rev. Chester Sheldon. Mrs. William Herren was organist and George Bachman soloist. A reception in the church parlor followed the ceremony. The bride's formal length gown was fashioned of nylon sheer over taffeta. Re-embroidered Alencon lace with seed pearls edged the scoop neckline of the bodice that had long sleeves ending in points over her hands, and a back bow topped the chapel sweep train. Her illusion veil was held in place by pearl-trimmed taffeta roses and she carried a crescent shaped bouquet of roses with fern fronds and lemon leaves. Local resident Thomas Gould was best man and the bridegroom's brother, James Beeker, was usher along with Thomas Bcety and Jerry Jackson of Kokomo and James Hill of Park Ridge, Ill. Mrs. Philip L. Henebry of Monticello was matron of honor and Miss Susan Shoemaker of Monticello, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid as were Mrs. Gerald Conner of Argenta, Ill.; Miss Susan Lloyd of Rochester, N.Y., and Miss Bonnie Schroth of Monticello. Miss Deborah Beeker, sister of the bridegroom, was junior bridesmaid. All wore pink taffeta floor-length gowns with matching veiled headpieces and carried bouquets of pale pink roses. Lt. Beeker is a graduate of Jefferson High School and Purdue University and a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. The bride was graduated from that same university following completion of her high school work in her home city. Her sorority is Alpha Delta Pi. After July 10 the couple will live at 2345 1/2 Kingsway Drive, Augusta, Ga., where Lt. Beeker is serving in the Army, assigned to Ft. Gordon.

LAFAYETTE MAN CITED -- Col. Felton H. Moore, secretary of the Army Southeaster Signal School at Ft. Gordon, Ga., pins the Army Commendation Medal on First Lt. Jerry L. Beeker, in recognition of his achievements as a student company commander. Lt. Beecher is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis E. Beeker of Lafayette.

Obituary: Lucas Funeral Home on 15 Jun 2016 in Keller, Tarrant, TX, USA. 1 Jerry Lewis Beeker was born on September 29, 1940 to Lewis and Milly Beeker in Lafayette, Indiana where he grew up participating in various sports, including swimming, baseball and golf. Golf became his favorite and he excelled at it and played in various tournaments all over the United Stares as an amateur. He earned a golf scholarship to Purdue University as well.
After graduation from Purdue in 1963, he enterd the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and was stationed at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. He was a Company Commander and also served as Captain of the Ft. Gordon golf team. He completed his military service as a Captain in September, 1965.
He was employed by the E.I. DuPont Company and started his career in Kinston, North Carolina in October, 1965. He also worked in Wilmington, North Carolina, Wilmington, Delaware and Greensboro, North Carolina. He started in the Dacron business, managed the Tyvek business for several years and ?nished his career as a manager in the Nylon and Lycra businesses and retired at the end of 1998.
In 2004, he and Ann moved to Brooksville, Florida where they enjoyed retirement and Jerry played many rounds of golf until ill health caused him to stop playing in 2015.
Jerry and Ann (Shoemaker) Beeker were married in June of 1964 and have two children, Jeffrey Beeker and Kathryn Lewis. Jeff and his wife Heather have two children, Madison and Mayson. Kathy and her husband Jayson have two children, Nia and Tristin.
Jerry and Ann moved to Texas several weeks ago to be near their children and grandchildren who all live nearby. It was a great blessing to be close to the family during the last days of Jerry's life. He passed away peacefully on June 15, 2016 is now with the Lord Jesus Christ whom he loved. The new address is: 201 Watermere Drive, Apt. 108, Southlake, TX 76092.
A family Memorial Service will be held in Southlake and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at their church in Brooksville, Florida at a later date.
Jerry is survived by his sister Deborah Lee of Windermere, Florida and her husband Mike, one niece, one nephew, two great nieces and three great nephews. His parents and brother, James Lewis Beeker, preceded him in death.
