27. Newspaper: Miami Herald: Grace Gearhart Employment Agenct, 25 Jan 1963, Miami, Miami-Dade, FL, USA. 33 PERSONALLY SPEAKING
She Keeps Posted On Best Chances For Job Seekers
DELRAY BEACH \emdash A shortage of shorthand artists exists. There are girls who can type, file and take dictation via machine but girls who can make ith the pothooks are sadly lacking. That's what Grace Gearhart says. Miss Gearhart operates employment agencies in Delray Beach, West Palm Beach and Pompano.
"I beg the girls to go to night school if necessary and learn shorthand" she said. ''You'd be amazed at the employers who need secretaries who can use shorthand. "A good legal secretary can always find a job. "Favored age group for secretaries is from 30 to 45 years old. "But the greatest present need in the employment line just now is for white chambermaids and waitresses both in homes and hotels. "Need for butlers has diminished almost to the vanishing point. Many who were formerly served in style and state can now be found in cafeteria lines.
AND RE OTHER NEEDS
"There's always a demand for skilled technical craftsmen \emdash both men and women. "And there are too many retired admirals and generals around who'd like to get back to work. They are perfectly willing to start out at $10,000 a year because you know they can do 'anything'. But if they really want to work they'll take what's available \emdash jobs as window washers, night switchboard operators at hotels and such. "One 19-year-old boy wanted us to find him a job as companion to an elderly woman. We had no such openings but understand he found work. "Many men and women in Palm Beach who find it difficult to keep up with the Joneses slip down to this area to earn a few shekels in private."

29. Newspaper: Miami Herald: Grace Bicher Hunt Admits to Forging, 28 Feb 1984, Miami, Miami-Dade, FL, USA. 34 Affidavit: 2 admit to forging
Dead woman's checks cashed
A 72-year-old West Palm Beach woman and her 62-year-old husband have admitted they forged and cashed "numerous" Social Security checks issued to the wife's dead mother according to federal court records. Grace Adelle Hunt and her husband Frederick Atwood Hunt were arrested Feb. 8 on charges of forging one of those checks. An affidavit filed in support of the charge notes that checks totalling almost $23,000 have been cashed since the mother died in 1971. "I don't want to say anything until I get a lawyer," Hunt said Monday. He and his wife were released on their own recognizance after their arrest and did not have to go to jail. Hunt said The Hunts, who live at 134 Seville Rd., are scheduled to be formally charged this morning by a U.S. magistrate in federal court in West Palm Beach. According to the complaint, the couple cashed a $279 check made out to Alma Bicher at a Delray Beach branch of Barnett Bank on Aug. 8, 1979.
Dead 12 years
Bicher who once lived on NE Eighth Avenue in Delray Beach died on Aug 31, 1971, the records show. Hunt "said he and his wife forged and negotiated numerous US Treasury checks" issued to Bicher since she died. US Secret Service Special Agent Robert G. Melchiorre wrote in the arrest affidavit "Mr Hunt stated that he would take the checks to various banks in Palm Beach County and negotiate said checks." Melchiorre stated Hunt signed a sworn statement admitting to his involvement. Melchiorre wrote in the affidavit "Mrs. Hunt said she was the one to sign the checks. Her husband would cash them," the affidavit states. The local office of the Social Security Administration calculated on Jan. 20 that checks totalling $22,799.40 have been cashed since Bicher's death according to the affidavit.

30. Newspaper: Miami Herald, 29 Feb 1984, Miami, Miami-Dade, FL, USA. 35 U.S. magistrate Patricia Jean Kyle set a personal surety bond of $5,000 for Grace and Frederick Hunt, the elderly West Palm Beach couple arrested for forging a $279 Social Security check issued to Grace Hunt's dead mother. An affidavit filed to support the arrest of the couple alleged that nearly $23,000 in benefits had been paid since the mother died in 1971. The judge assigned a federal public defender to the couple after they testified they are indigent.
