Also with them: Catharine Hunter, 18, and Ally Hunter, 1. William had no real estate value and was living on land owned by Samuel Schoffstall, farmer, 76, and his wife Sarah, 64 (William was their son-in-law.) Samuel's farm was worth $10,000, his personal estate $200, and William's personal estate $600. Samuel, his wife and William and his wife were born in Pennsylvania, and the children in Ohio. The post office was Lithopolis.

2. Census in 1870 in Columbus, Franklin, OH. 10 The 1870 census recorded in the 5th Ward: William M. Bicker [indexed as Bicker or Ricker due to poor handwriting], 41, retail dry goods dealer, living with wife Mary E., 36; Edwin S., 12; Sarah, 10; and George G., 6. The children were born in Ohio and the parents in Pennsylvania. William had no real estate value and his personal estate was valued at $3000. The post office was Columbus.

Newspaper: Cincinnati Enquirer: Bicker-Ritt Marriage, 18 Feb 1881, Cincinnati, Hamilton, OH. 1 The marriage of Mr. Edwin Bicker [sic] and Miss Sadie Ritt took place last evening at the residence of the bride's parents at Carthage. The wedding was strictly private, the ceremony performed by Rev. Joseph Emery, of Cincinnati. The attendants were Mr. Varner Ritt, brother of the bride, and Miss Sadie Bicker, sister of the groom. The bride was attried in an elegant suit of wine and old gold brocade satin, orange blossoms and diamond ornaments. The groom wore the customary black and looked manly and proud of the prize he had won. The marriage ring being placed on the bride's finger and congratulations received, the party retired to the dining room, and after an elegant supper the happy couple took the train for Columbus, Ohio, the home of the groom. Their many friends wish them a smooth career upon the ocean of life.

Census in 1900 in Carthage, Hamilton, OH. 8 The 1900 census recorded owning the home at 129 Second Street: Edwin Bichus [sic], traveling salesman, 42, born May 1858, living with wife Sarah, 42, Apr 1858. They were married for 19 years and she birthed 5 children, all alive in 1900. Living with them were: son John, clerk hardware,18, May 1882; son Earl, 13, Feb 1887; son Roy, 8, Oct 1891; son Herbert, 6, Jan 1894; and daughter Isabel, 4, May 1896. Also in their home was mother-in-law Mary Ritt, widow, 64, Jun 1835, who was married 46 years ago and had birthed 2 children; and brother-in-law Warren Ritt, painter, 45, Oct 1854. Everyone and their parents were born in Ohio except Edwin's and Mary's fathers in Pennsylvania.

Edwain S. Bicher, 76, retired merchant, died of acute indigestion early today at his home, 1324 Central Avenue. Bicher was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Carthage and Killwining Chapter, Cincinnati. He also was a member of Trinity M. E. Church, Cincinnati. He is survived by Mrs. Bicher, one daughter, two sons, a sister, and a brother. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon.


Edwin married Sarah Ann Ritt, daughter of John Ritt and Mary Isabell Walker, on 17 Feb 1881 in Carthage, Hamilton, OH.1 (Sarah Ann Ritt was born on 17 Apr 1858 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, OH,8 died on 1 Jan 1937 in Middletown, Butler, OH 16 and was buried in Cincinnati: Vine Street Hill Cemetery, Hamilton, OH 16.)
