1. Obituary: Chicago Tribune on 12 Mar 2023 in Chicago, Cook, IL. 3 Anne Carole Bucher of Palatine, Illinois passed away on March 9, 2023 after a decades-long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1959, and grew up in Bethesda and Potomac, Maryland. The daughter of the late William M. Bucher, Sr. and the late Claire H. Trolier (Joseph) of Silver Spring, Maryland, Anne was an exceptionally bright student and a gifted artist. She graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) in 1981 and earned her Master of Science Degree in Nutritional Biochemistry from Cornell University in 1984. Anne had a career as a food science researcher and packaging designer first with General Mills, and then with Kraft Foods, where she was credited with twelve packaging patents for the company.
She was especially proud of producing an authoritative and comprehensive history of Kraft's scientific accomplishments called "The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Cheese," a book which has been cited as a source for company press releases and articles since its publication in 2005. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in her late 20's, Anne also became a pioneer for handicapped employees at Kraft and ultimately became a visible representative and advocate at Kraft headquarters for the company's employees with disabilities.
In her private life she was an avid gardener, artist, and friend. She loved to invite others to enjoy her garden and generously shared her personal works of art, including beautiful greeting cards, drawings, watercolor and acrylic paintings, with her friends and family.
Through the years, Anne depended on a succession of dedicated caregivers to whom she was indebted for allowing her to live her life as freely as possible. The family wishes to specially thank those who cared for her near the end of her life: Elsa Elaasar, Eloisa Dabu, and Jocelyn Hauripata.
Anne was predeceased by her parents; she is survived by her partner, James T. Abrahams, her faithful companion cat Bruno, a brother, William M Bucher, Jr. (Gayla) of Salisbury, NC, and a sister, Patricia M. DeVere (Randy) of Warrenton, Virginia, as well as nieces Lauren Terwilliger, Abigail Ness and their families, niece Danielle DeVere and nephew Randy DeVere, III.
Funeral arrangements are to be announced later.
