Bucher was born June 5, 1918 to Dr. William and Elizabeth Bucher, and was raised in the Los Angeles area, graduating from San Fernando High School in 1937. He later graduated from Cal Poly University in 1942 - at a time when it was still an all-male university. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist mate during WWII on the USS Wharton.
On Saturday, Sept. 15, John died in Davis at the age of 94.
John worked in the oil and gas industry for more than 35 years as a mud engineer, primarily for Calada Materials and Northern Mud.
John was married twice, and was preceded in death by both wives, Ardelle Bucher in 1993 and Charlotte Bucher in 2001, as well as his step-daughter, Meg Thomas in 2006. He was also preceded in death by both parents and his only brother, Bill. He is survived by three children, Pat Blankenburg, Bill Bucher and Joan Caldwell; in addition to his step-daughter Judy Ames. John is also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was baptized in 2011 at the age of 93 - the oldest person to have been baptized in his congregation.
To all who knew and loved him, he was bigger than life. He will be greatly missed. We will honor him by treasuring wonderful memories, speaking of him often, and watching the seeds he planted in our family and friendships grow.
