Obituary: Shamokin News-Dispatch on 30 Aug 1928 in Shamokin, Northumberland, PA. 3 Harry Niehoff, Former Assessor, Dies At Sunbury Local Man, Who Moved To Sunbury Nine Years Ago, Died From Effects of a Stroke Harry R. Niehoff, father of Jacob Niehoff of this city, and for 12 years Eighth ward assessor, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harvey Bucher, 910 Penn street, at 12:10 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Niehoff's death came from the effects of a complication of diseases brought on by a stroke of paralysis which he suffered 17 years ago. Since then he had been in ill health, though he was able to carry on his duties as assessor and following his removal to Sunbury was able to work for a while as an assistant superintendent for the Prudential Insurance company. He had been bedfast for the past year at his daughter's home. Mr. Niehoff was born at Lykens 69 years ago the son of the late Henry Niehoff. He came to Shamokin as a boy and was employed in local stores as a clerk for many years and up to the time of his disability. After he was stricken he a was elected assessor in the Eighth ward and held that office until his removal to Sunbury nine years ago. He was a member of the local camp of the Sons of Veterans and was well known and highly esteemed throughout this community. Surviving are three children. Chester A., and Mrs. Bucher, of Suabury, and Jacob, of this city. The funeral will be held Saturday. Services will be conducted, the Bucher home tomorrow night and the remains brought here for burial Saturday afternoon.
