Henrietta Beecher and her husband Wm. C. Beecher vs. Jeremiah Rife and A. B. Kauffman trading as Rife & Kauffman; action on a promissory note for $720 which was given by the defendants in 1874. The note was offered in evidence.
The defense was that this note was given to the plaintiff's for land situated in Wisconsin purchase by them through D. C. Schwartz, represented that this land was a good as a lot more in the neighborhood owned by Mr. Kauffman himself. They then purchased 360 acres agreeing to give $2 per acre. After they had paid $120 of the principal and the interest they found that the land was not as represented and they stopped paying on the note. In rebuttal the plaintiff proceded to show that Schwartz had not made representations alleged. On trial.

WEDDING BELLS.
-----
They Ring Merrily at Eden and at Intercourse.
On Wednesday morning at nine o'clock Mr. Wm. H. Conley was united in marriage to Miss H. Bertha Beecher, at the home of the bride's father, Mr. Wm. C. Beecher, of Eden, Rev. Chas. L. Fry officiating. After the ceremony the invited guests partook of an elegantly served breakfast. The bride and groom took the noon train for Watkins Glen, Niagara Falls and the West for a wedding trip.
Mr. Conley is a locomotive engineer on the P. R. R. and stands among the first in his calling. He was born and brought up near Sadsburyville, Chester county, and attended the winter sessions of Parkesburg Academy -- which has given so many names to the P. R. R. service -- the chief being Wm. J. Latta, General Agent of the road. For two years, Mr. Conley was the classmate and near companion of Robt B. Risk, of The Examiner and so seemed like a genial remembrance of long ago for the latter to meet the old school fellow in the most serious undertaking of his life. Mr. Conley was the humorist of the school, and so kindly fun and merry laughs always attended his presence. As he was popular as a boy the same qualities have made him a prosperous, substantial and respected man. The writer hereof takes special pleasure in wishing the bride and groom all the happiness and prosperity true merit deserves and which it surely wins in the end.
