Miriam was 9 months old when her mother passed away. Her grandparents, McClain and Mary E. Swartz Miller, raised her on a farm at Hilltown, also kept store. Later they moved to Cashtown and her father Ernest remarried to Sue O'Brien who lived next to them on the Arendtsville and Cashtown Road.

  Noted events in her life were:

1. She was employed in Gettysburg, Adams, PA. She and her husband operated Hershey's Men's Shop in Gettysburg for 22 years.

2. Organizations: Cashtown, Adams, PA. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Cashtown, and member and former president of the Sunshine Sunday School Class at the church. She was a member of the Cashtown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Miriam married Donald Henry Lohr Hershey, son of Laban Elliot Hershey and Estella Mary Lohr, on 25 Mar 1929. (Donald Henry Lohr Hershey was born on 31 Oct 1909 in , Adams, PA, died on 15 Jul 2001 in Gettysburg, Adams, PA and was buried in McKnightstown: Flohr's Lutheran Church, Adams, PA.)
