5. Obituary: Sunbury Daily Item newspaper on 15 Feb 1929 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA. 3 Headline: W. D. Bucher, of Old City Family, Dies; Ill A Week

William D. Bucher, member of one of Sunbury's oldest families, died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home, 522 South Front Street. Death followed a week's illness with gastritis.

Mr. Bucher had been suffering with stomach trouble at times for some years past but was in his usual health until stricken ill barely a week ago. He served as a juror in Northumberland county criminal court last week.

Born May 13, 1854, the son of the late Henry Bucher and wife, he was a lifelong resident of the city. The old family homestead was located at Second and Spruce streets.

The family from which he was descended had resided in Sunbury since the days of the Indian occupation of this section. His ancestor, Henry Bucher, whose name was the same as that of his father, at one time owned the entire third ward section from Spruce street south.

Mr. Bucher was for more than thirty years employed as a car inspector by the Pennsylvania Railroad and after being retired, took a position at the Converting Works where he was engaged in recent years. He was active in spite of his seventy five years.

He was a man deeply attached to his family and his home and was a model citizen whose passing is a distinct loss to the community.

Surviving to mourn his loss are his wife, one daughter, Miss Fay, and three brothers, John F., of Selinsgrove, George and Samuel, of Sunbury.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the late home in charge of the Rev. J. A. Hartman of Grace Lutheran church. Burial will be made in the West Side Cemetery.
