  General Notes:

In the Sunbury American newspaper, dated March 17, 1876, was this death notice:

"In this place, at the residence of her son-in-law, Henry BUCHER, Sr., Rebecca HARP, aged about 77 years."

This indicates that a Henry Bucher Sr. married a Harp, but is that the Henry W. Bucher born 1825 who married Malinda ?, or the Henry D. Bucher born 1842 who married Louisa C. ?

Noted events in his life were:

1. Census in 1850 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA. 3 Henry Bucher, 23, ferryman, is living with Malinda, 23; and Margaret, 1. The previous household is Elizabeth Bucher, 58, living with Francis Bucher, 20. Elizabeth could be the mother of Henry and Francis and living with them as a widow. Since Henry is a ferryman, and The History of Northumberland County states a ferry was run by a Henry, son of the original pioneer Henry Bucher (1764-1824), we assume this Henry is the grandson, still operating the family business.

2. Census in 1860 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA. 6 7 Henry Bucher, age 29, laborer, is living with Malinda, 30; Rosetta, 9; and Jane, 1. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. His real estate is valued at $1000 and his possessions worth $150.
[Note: Ages for parents in each case are 4 years too high. Malinda's is an additional year since the census was recorded right after her birthday in August, 1860.].

Henry's real estate is valued at $3,000 and his possessions worth $300. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania.

5. Obituary: The Daily Item on 15 Jun 1898 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA. 8 Henry W. Bucher Dead.
Henry W. Bucher died suddenly at his home, corner Second and Spruce streets, Wednesday morning about 8 o'clock. He was about the house and yard in the morning and was apparently in his usual health.
About quarter past 7 o'clock he and his son Chas. were walking in the back yard and talking. Charles left him for a short time, about 20 minutes, and on his return found his father lying at the foot of the steps of the back porch, one foot was resting on the porch and his body on the pavement two steps below. On going to him it was found that life was extinct. Dr. W. L. Shindel was immediately summoned and after an examination he pronounced the cause of the sudden death valvular heart disease. Mr. Bucher was a life-long resident of this place, having been born here December 25, 1825. He was married Feb. 27, 1848, to Malinda Harp. His wife died in February, 1897. Seven children are the survivors of the family: Henry W. Bucher, Jr.; William D. Bucher, Rosa, wife of J. W. Bottomstone; Charles A. Bucher, George B. Bucher, John F.
Bucher, all of whom reside in Sunbury except John F., who is a member of Co. E, 12th Regt. P. V., at Camp Alger, Va. Mr. Bucher was one of the old railroad men of this place, having been an employe of the N. C. R. R., as near as can be recalled, about 35 years. It is remembered that he was the fireman on the old "Camelback" switcher, of which the late John Bourne was engineer. Later, and for a number of years, he fired on the freight house engine with Robert Magoon.
About two years ago he quit the engine and was given a lighter position with the company. He was a member of Odd Fellow Lodge No. 203 and a number of the Pennsylvania R. R. Relief department. He was a most congenial men, always had a pleasant word for all his acquaintances and had a large number of friends who very much regret his death. He was a soldier in the war of the rebellion and served as one of the Union's most faithful defenders. Funeral at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Interment at Sunbury at cemetery.

Henry married Malinda Harp, daughter of Jonathan Harp and Rebecca, on 27 Feb 1848.1 (Malinda Harp was born on 18 Aug 1825 in , , Pennylvania, USA,2 3 4 5 died on 28 Feb 1897 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA 2 and was buried in Sunbury: Sunbury Cemetery, Northumberland, PA 2.)
