Mrs. Anna (Brickner) Smith, 40, wife of Alfred Smith, York, died in the York hospital at 6:50 o'clock Thursday evening of injuries suffered at 2:15 o'clock Thursday afternoon in an automobile accident in York.
Mrs. Smith was a daughter of Mrs. Josephine (Hemler) Brickner, of York, formerly of Gettysburg, and both she and her daughter have many relatives in Gettysburg and vicinity.
Mrs. Smith was riding in a coach operaterd by her son, Alfred Smith, when it was struck by a sedan operated by Edward S. Beecher, of Spring Grove. A check-up by York city police revealed no eye witnesses of the accident.

Thrown Out Of Car
Smith, an a statement made at the hospital, said that his car was in the middle of a street intersection when Beecher's machine struck his car, throwing it against the house on the southwest corner. When the car struck the curb of the pavement the doors of the machine were thrown open and Mrs. Smith was thrown out. Her head struck either the pavement or the house.
The rear bumper of Smith's car struck the cellar window of the house and broke it. Smith's car was traveling west on Prospect street and Beecher's machine was traveling south on Pine.
Mrs. Smith was taken to the hospital by Harry Flory, York R. D. 6. Motor Patrolman Emig investigated the accident.
Coronoer L. U. Zech is conducting an investigation and will hold an inquest.

Leaves Nine Children
Mrs. Smith was the mother of nine chidren, one of whom is only one month old. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Sister Agnes Marie, novice int he convent of the order of St. Francis, Glen Riddle, Philadelphia; Alfred, George Spahn, Donald, Edward, Marie, Phyllis, John and an infant, Robert Francis, aged one month. Her mother, Mrs. Josephine Brickner, and her sister, Miss Caroline Brickner, York, also survive.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Jasoph's Catholic church, and of the Altar-Rosary society of the church.

Beecher conducted a barber shop in the borough more than ten years ago. During the war he conducted barber shops at a number of Army camps, one of them being Indiantown Gap.

SPRING GROVE - Edward S. Beecher, a retired barber, husband of Mrs. Pauline F. Beecher, died Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at his residence, Spring Grove RD 1. He was 68.
Mr. Beecher, a barber in this area for 40 years before his retirement last April, was born in Jackson Twp., son of the late Edward and Levina Stambaugh Beecher.
He was a member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Spring Grove Lake Club, Nashville Fire C.O. and Hanover Lodge 763, BPOE.
Surviving also are two daughters, Mrs. John F. Strayer, Goldens Bridge, N. Y., and Mrs. Francis W. Dauber, 1861 N. George St., York, two grandchildren, and four sisters, Mrs. Sherman Ruth, 3166 W. Market St.; Mrs. Clarence Berkheimer, 2910 W. Market St.; Mrs. William Boyer, 2004 Orange St., all of York, and Mrs. George Hoffman, Hanover.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York. Rev. Larry M. Nett, pastor of Mt. Carmel Church, will officiate, assisted by Rev. David Menges, a former pastor. Interment will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery, York.
