In the household of Daniel Snyder, age 40, brickmaster, is his wife Elizabeth, 36; Edward, 16; Sophia, 14; Susana, 13; Levi, 12; Ann M. 11; William, 9; Daniel, 7; John, 6; and Francis, 2. Everyone is born in Pennsylvania except Daniel in Maryland.

In the houseold of Levi Beecher, age 37, farmer, is his wife Eve, 37; Elias, 9; Noah, 4. Also in the home is a David Geiger, 15. Levi has no real estate because he is living on land owned by his neighbor, his father, John Beecher, 70; his mother, Ann, 66; and their daughter Susan, 31, as well as a Mary Fisher, age 15. John's real estate is valued at $4,000.

Census in 1860 in Manchester District, Carroll, MD. ¹¹ Levi Bercher [indexed in this census as Bercher or Bucher or Beicher], 47, horse doctor, was living with Eve, 49; Noah, 14; Mary, 10; and William, 4. Everyone was born in Maryland except Levi in Pennsylvania. His real estate was worth $1500 and personal estate $200. The post office was Manchester Town.

BY virtue of a decree of the Hon. John E. Smith, Judge of the Circuit Court for Carroll county, in Equity, the undersigned as Trustee by said decree appointed, will offer at Public Sale, at his residence, in Manchester, Carroll county, Maryland, on Monday, the 26th day of March, 1866, at 10 o'clock, A. M., the following property whereof Eve Beecher, wife of the subscriber, died seized, to wit: A Lot of Ground containing about a Quarter of an Acre of Land, situated in the Town of Manchester, adjoining property of Joseph Little, having thereon a TWO STORY FRAME DWELLING HOUSE, part weatherboarded, and part rough cast. Log Stable, &c. It is subject to a ground rent of $1.00 per year, the deceased's interest therein being a lease for 99 years renewable for ever. Also at the same time and place, a Let of Ground, owned by said deceased, in fee simple, containing about 2 Acres of Land, situated on the Westminster Road, adjoining land of Jesse Warner, less than half a mile from Manchester. All the above property will be sold clear of the life estate of the undersigned therein, as surviving husband of said deceased. Terms of Sale. \emdash One-third of the purchase money to be paid in hand, or on the ratification of the sale, and the balance in one and two years from the day of sale, to be secured by the notes of the purchaser, with security to be approved by tbe Trustee. Ordered this 10th day of April, 1866, that the sale made and reported in the above cause by Levi Beecher, Trustee for the sale of the Real and Leasehold Estate in said cause described, and decreed to be sold, be finally ratified and confirmed, unless cause to the contrary be shown, on or before the 14th day of May, 1866: Provided a copy of this order be inserted in some newspaper printed in Carroll county, for three successive weeks previous to the 7th day of may next. The report states the amount of sale to be fourteen hundred dollars -- ($1400.00)

The erection of the Manchester Bethel church (United Brethren in Christ) was begun in 1870, and was completed in the same year. The building is a handsome brick structure. It was dedicated on Sunday, Jan. 1, 1871. At its dedication Bishop J. Weaver, of Baltimore, was present, and preached morning and night to a large congregation. Rev. John Shaeffer, of Baltimore, preached in the afternoon in the German language. The spire is forty feet above the roof, and presents a fine appearance. The first pastor, under whose auspices the building was erected, was Rev. Mr. Hutchinson ; the next one, Rev. J. B. Jones ; and the present incumbent. Rev. Mr. Quigly, who took charge in 1881. In the rear of the church is a neat graveyard, in which are buried:

Mary M. Baring, born July 25, 1752, died Jan. 29, 1830 ; and her husband, Ezekiel, who died March 30, 1838, aged 87.

Rev. Ezekiel Baring, born Jan. 16, 17S0, died Feb. 14, 1861.

John Baring, died Pec. 17, 1869, aged 85.

Violet Baring, wife of Jacob Swartzbaugh, born Jan. 17, 1796, died March 2. 1857.

Margaret A. Stultz, born April 1, 1780, died April 23, 1861.

Elizabeth, wife of John Young, died Nov. 18, 1873, aged 76.

Catherine Lynerd, died Nov. 5, 1873, aged 73.

Martha Burkett, died July 17, 1866, aged 83.

Levi Beecher, died Oct. 11, 1866, aged 52; and his wife, Eve, Nov. 22, 1865, aged 53.

This church organization had a log church prior to 1879, on the same lot where the brick building now stands. Its trustees in 1857 were Samuel Dehofif, Joseph H. Little, Jacob W. Baring, Amos Williams, and Henry W. Steffy.

Levi married Eve Flickinger. (Eve Flickinger was born on 19 Oct 1812 in , , PA,^{2 3 17} died on 22 Nov 1865 in , Carroll, MD ^{2 3 17} and was buried in Manchester: Bethel Church (United Brethren in Christ), Carroll, MD ¹⁷.)
