If you can identify someone please email the name and number to searchtrees@gmail.com. We’ll send you a closeup photo of that ancestor, and add their name to the name index below.

Info about the Bucher reunions is at the bottom of this page.

Note: The reunions were organized by descendants of Hans Martin Bucher who died in 1779 in Warwick Township, Lancaster County. As the reunions became popular, other Bucher families attended, perhaps thinking all were related, but keep in mind that our Bucher Y-DNA testing has proven there were 14 or more unrelated Bucher lines in 1700’s Pennsylvania, with at least 4 living in Lancaster County.

BUCHER REUNION

First Annual Event Held Near Clay, On Monday Last

The first reunion of the descendants of Jonas W. Bucher, whose predecessors came from Geneva, Switzerland, was held Saturday, May 28th, 1921, at the Old Bucher Farm, near Clay, Clay township, Lancaster county, Pa., now owned and operated by Elmer B. Bucher, grandson of the late Jonas W. Bucher.

There was a general home gathering about 10 o’clock, when the folks congregated into the spacious barn, which was very comfortably fitted for the short morning service which was rendered. The service was in charge of Phares B. Bucher. The devotional exercises were conducted by Rev. John B. Bucher, who read the 145th Psalm; Elmer Bucher extended a very cordial welcome to the grown-ups, followed by greetings to the young folks by his little daughter, Myrtle. Helen Martin recited “Out to Old Aunt Mary’s,” by James Whitcomb Riley. The program was intersperced with the singing of songs. A short business meeting followed. The following officers were elected: President, Elmer B. Bucher; V. Pres., Mrs. Jacob P. Burkholder, Ephrata; Secretary, Mary A. Bucher, Quarryville; Treasurer, Jacob P. Burkholder, Ephrata. It was decided that a Bucher Reunion should be held annually, whereupon a committee of the four brothers, namely, Phares and Benjamin Bucher, Lititz, Levi B. Bucher Quarryville and John B. Bucher, Ephrata, were appointed to arrange for the next year’s meeting.

The meeting adjourned for a bountiful repast. To see so many people being fed at one time, reminded one of the feeding of the five thousand. It was quite evident from the groans which were uttered at the close of the meal that there were none who suffered because of an insufficient supply of food.

The afternoon program was in charge of Ella Bucher, Ephrata, who delightfully entertained the little folks as well as the grown-ups with “stories,” underlined with morals of character building. Edgar Erb, Lancaster, gave an amusing recitation of german dialect. The following little folks recited: Olive Snyder, Miltred Erb, Helen Snyder, Irene Witmer, Earl Gockley, Hazel Shoemaker, Lester, Abram and Minnie Summers, and Myrtle Bucher, followed by a dialogue given by Ruth Buckwalter and Helen Martin. Mrs. J.P. Burkholder gave an object lesson, in which she illustrated the moral and immoral side of life by the aid of chemicals. The ready response to the qustions asked showed the eagerness and interest on the part of the pupils. The three brothers Phares, Levi and Benjamin Bucher gave an interesting account of what they remembered of their boyhood days on the farm. Some of which were rather amusing as “boys will be boys.” General remarks were given by various persons in the audience. Adjournment was again made for another bountiful meal. The home gathering dispersed about the hour of six.

A vote of thanks was extended to Elmer B. Bucher and Mrs. Jacob P. Burkholder for their earnest endeavor in making this reunion a success.

The following persons registered: Mrs. Susan Brubaker, Mt. Joy; Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Snyder and children Susan, Helen and Abram; Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bender, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Brubaker and son Robert; Abram Brubaker, Lebanon; Mr. and Mrs. John Gockley and children Mary, Clarence, Earl and Henry; Mr. and Mrs. Isaac B. The third reunion was held at Kaufman’s Park, Manheim, Pa., on August 11th, 1923, the 201st anniversary of the Clan. More interest was manifested this time by representatives of the Clan from other states furnishing data of interest for historians, whose untiring efforts are noteworthy in obtaining interesting historical facts for the writing of a book.
