Duane Beacher, an outstanding member of the Class of 1962,is spotlighted for his fine achievements as a versatile student and athlete. The treasurer of the sophomore class, Duane is the son of Mr and Mrs. B. Donald Beacher, 856 West Ave., Springfield.
As a member of the varsity wrestling team and Suburban Champ for two years, Duane is what Springfield High School and challenging schools consider a terrific mat man. Not only does he wrestle in the 95-lb. class, but he is a participant in Springfield's tennis and cross country teams. Other than school sports Duane enjoys playing basketball and has an interesting hobby of astronomy.
Last year as a freshman he received an award from TIME magazine and was also awarded a varsity key in wrestling.
As far as future plans are concerned, Duane hopes to receive scholarship to Lehigh University following graduation from high school. This summer he will serve as a junior counselor at Cam Nik O Mahs.

CHELTENHAM \endash DELAWARE COUNTY'S best high school wrestlers aren't a bit bashful. They all want to be kissed Friday night before a capacity crowd. And perhaps they will. It's all part of the pageantry which goes with the District One wrestling tournament here. The champion of each division receives a medal and a kiss from the tournament queen.
Two of Coach Dick Shoemaker's Springfield High School Cougars hope to be standing in line when the good part starts. Darryl Beacher, a young man from a family of successful wrestlers, will represent the Suburban Conference in the 112-pound division and Mike Knapp will vie for the 145-pound pennant. Beacher has two brothers who are also wrestling champions. DUANE BEACHER is the oldest. He won the District One title three straight years and went to the state semifinals as a senior, 103-pounder.
He's now a member of Lehigh University's nationally known team. As a sophomore, he competed in and won several varsity matches this season. Doug Beacher is the unfortunate member of the trio, A junior, Doug was defending conference champ, but a knee injury kept him out of district competition for 103-pound honors this season. If Darryl happens to lose Friday, it will be the first time he's ever lost a dual match.
He took up the sport as a 7th grader and has gone undefeated through his sophomore year.

Her fiance, an alumnus of Springfield High School ansd Lehigh University, is employed by the West Chester Electric Co.

Christ United Methodist Church was the setting Saturday for the wedding of Miss Shirley Elaine Steward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Steward, 101 Ash Road, Nether Providence, to Duane B. Beacher, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Donald Beacher, 856 West Ave., Springfield. Rev. Ellsworth Jennings officiated. A reception at the Alpine Inn, Springfield, followed the ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a satin empire gown trimmed in Venise lace on the bodice and detachable chapel train.
