Miss Joann Carrie Beecher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. Beecher of Walnut Bottom, was united in marriage with William Chester Ashburn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester H. Ashburn of Carlisle, recently in the Centerville Lutheran church.

Rev. Donald H. Bohn performed the double ring ceremony assisted by Rev. Victor C. Detty, pastor of the Dickinson Presbyterian church. The ring given to the bride by the bridegroom was the ring of his maternal great grandmother.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a floor length clipped Chantilly lace over taffeta gown with a bateau neckline back and three quarter length sleeves. It has an 18 inch pleated net flounce around the bottom of the skirt ending in a chapel train. Her shoulder length veil was fastened to a bandeau of seed pearls. She carried a Bible topped with a white orchid.

Miss Donna Mae Beecher, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Doyle D. Ashburn of Carlisle R. R, 5. sister in law of the bridegroom, and Miss Mildred I. Martin of Newville R. R. 1. They were attired in matching waltz length, deep rose taffeta gowns, with draped necklines and V back fitted bodices. Each had a full skirt, net rose bow in the V in the back, with streamers extending to the hem of the dress. They carried rose carnations and white pompons and white accessories.

Serving as best man for his brother was Doyle D. Ashburn of Carlisle R. R. 5. The ushers were Kirby Burkholder , and Roland Beecher of Carlisle R. R.4.

Kathy Jo Beam, cousin of the bride was the flower girl and the ring bearer was David E, Beecher, brother of the bride. The acolyte was Robert L. Beecher, another brother of the bride.

For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Beecher chose a dress of navy print nylon chiffon with; a white hat and accessories. Mrs. Ashburn, mother of the bridegroom, wore a brown cotton lace over beige dress, beige hat and accessories. Both wore cymbidium orchid corsages.

George Houck of Newville was the soloist. Miss Peggy Skelley of Carlisle R. R. 4 was the organist.
Following the ceremony a reception was held on the lawn at the home of the bride for 150 guests. The couple went on a wedding trip to Ocean City, N. J. and, on their return on Sept. 6 took up residence at the home of the bridegroom's parents.

The bride is a graduate of Big Spring high school in the class of 1959 and is a freshman at Shippensburg State Teachers college. The bridegroom is a graduate of Carlisle high school in the class of 1958 and is a sophomore at Shippensburg State Teachers college.
