Bette Jean Gibbons, Shenandoah Heights, and Anthony T. Rizzardi, Girardville, were united in marriage August 5th in Bethany and First United Methodist Church, Shenandoah, by Rev. James Mort and Rev. Francis Gillespie during a double ring ceremony. White mums and gladioli adorned the altar area.
Soloist Mrs. Paul Keithan, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Ettinger, offered selections "The Wedding Song," "'The Lord's Prayer," "If," "'A Time For Us," and "You Light Up My Life." The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gibbons, 193 Pennsylvania Avenue, Shenandoah Heights.
Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rizzardi, 20 Julia Street, Girardville. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white organza with high neck and long sleeves with double flounce of lace at the cuffs. Alencon lace appliques adorned the bodice and sleeves.
The full skirt with flounce was edged in lace. She wore a profile hat of Alencon lace designed with tiers of silk illusion and carried a cascade of white carnations, multicolored daisies, and baby's breath. Matron of honor was Norma Barlow, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Mary Rizzardi, cousin of the groom, Reading; Margaret Sincavage, friend of the bride, Shenandoah Heights; Cheryl Rizzardi, sister in of the groom, Girardville; and Jane Ann Harper, of the bride, Alabama. The attendants wore knit gowns in pastel shades of yellow, lilac, pink, nile green, and apricot, featuring accordion pleated skirts with matching capes. They wore matching silk daisies in their hair and carried nosegays of white daisies.
Thomas Rizzardi, brother of the groom, Girardville, was best man. Ushers were John Kunigonis, Mahanoy City, and Paul Barnar, Ashland, friend of the groom; Fred Gibbons, Shenandoah Heights, brother of bride; and Joseph Rizzardi, Girardville, brother of the groom. Jason Rizzardi, Girardville, nephew of the groom, was ringbearer. Mother of the bride wore a toast chiffon gown with gold accessories and a white cymbidium orchid.
Mother of the groom wore a blue accordion pleated gown with matching cape and white accessories, and corsage of white carnations. Following a reception at Stan Genetti's in Hazleton, the couple honeymooned on a cruise to the Bahamas. They will reside in Shenandoah Heights.
